New tyres fitted today!

Featured Replies

My original conti's lasted 21k,i could of got another 1k maybe 2k out of them but they were close to the limit so i have had a set of falken 452's fitted today & wow what a difference, car is so much nicer to drive, fingers crossed i dont get a punchure as i have a habit (or bad luck) at getting punchures soon after new tyres have been fitted!

nice one, I'll need my rears doing shortly, where did you get them done (and mind me asking how much?)?

I got them fitted at "tech tyres" in york.My friend owns it,i paid £88 per tyre,i could of got them a bit cheaper on line but by the time you add on the fitting & disposal charges id have saved £30.Some places i rang round said they wouldnt fit customer supplied tyres & some wanted £25 per tyre for fitment & disposal.I couldnt get them any cheaper round here. Some places tried to sell me standard tyres, ive been told these tyres have to be "extra load" & if you fit standard tyres & take your car for mot dealers are failing the cars for these tyres been fitted(its the same for all vag group cars)My conti's did have "extra load" wrote on the sidewall & the budget tyre that the dealer fitted when i bought the car had "extra load" on the sidewall so i guess there must be some truth in it? Tyres for the vrs seems a bit of a nightmare, there are so many choices & people have good & bad experiences of most tyres fitted.

That's not bad at all.

I ordered a pair for my fronts from Camskill for £140 delivered, but then had to spend another £15 each getting them fitted by eTyres, who were happy to fit them, but the ONLY outfit I could find that would.

Did I hera those Falcons wear out rather quickly?

also

is it possible why you are finding such a difference is because you now have new tyres and are comparing them with worn ones? or are you comparing them to when the Conti's were new?

It can be hard to remember what that was like LOL

When i am changing mine i am putting a set of Hankook's on.

Great reports about them

I look forward to seeing how you feel in a few thousand miles.

I swapped to Hankooks and they are very very good in the dry but im not so impressed with them in the wet.

I can go through a set of tyres within 4-6 months but then again I do 50k a year.

21k :envy:  I'm on 13k with about a 1000miles left in them(on the front) I thought I was being fairly gentle with them, clearly not.

Hankooks in the dry are ok, but as already said in the wet the are sh1te.

Just had 4 Kuhmo KU39 (225/45/17) fitted today, have been using Falken ZE912 for the last couple of years and fancied a change. Only have about 50 miles on the Kuhmo's so I can't really comment on them but will post on them in a few days.

I think you will like the Kuhmo's I had them on my old Saab 9-5 Aero was putting out 230hp on the fronts and never had much problem with them.

Did a few check there on differing tyre tests. The Hankooks actually came out better than the Bridgestones i currently use which I am happy enough with in the wet.

I had bridgestone potenzas on for about 5 months, went to rotate them and found all 4 of them were all evenly wore down to the point it would have been a waste of time rotating them, they must be a very soft compound tire. The problem is with those tyre rating sites is I guess everyone is driving different cars and driving styles vary, the ratings may take some of the guess work away but the only way really is to give a brand a go and see.

I had Michelin Pilot Primacy HP as OE on my car. I changed the fronts at 21,500miles. Only Primacy HP was available. The new version according to the Michelin web site.

They are wearing evenly, but fast and I will be lucky to get half that mileage. My driving style and commute is identical. The original rears are not yet half worn at 29,000.

I thought the extra cost of the replacement Michelins would be offset by a higher mileage but I have been proved wrong.

I had Michelin PS3's on my front, lasted for 18k miles, not bad compared to the Dunlops that came with it (6k!!). I've had a pair of Falken 452's on the back since November last year, seemed like a good tyre, but when I got some Conti 3's to replace the worn Michelins Costco rotated the tyres so that the Falkens were on the front. They're not a bad tyre, but I don't have as much confidence cornering in them as with the Michelins, also they're noticeably noisier than the PS3s. Will see how long the 452's last before I decide whether to get some more Contis, Michelins or Falkens.

I had a set of Bridgestones on my old pre-FL vRS.

I will agree that the compund seems to be very soft and I got through them at a hell of a rate.

I only had them because I desperately needed some and that was all that was "in stock" of a good name.

I honestly thought paying more for the Bridgestone's would be a good economy - oh how wrong I was.

Eventually put Falken 452's all around and they were fine until I sold the car.

My new FL vRS has Continental's on.

So far I've been impressed, grippy and not much noise.

So "better the devil you know", unless there is something amazing out there in the future, once these eventually wear down I'll stick to the same brand.

I used Falken 452's on my MK1 vRS and they were great, from new they also provided some much needed grip in the snow. I got 20k miles from a set.

Hi

I got a full set of Falken 452's fitted to my Astravan a few months ago - done 3000 miles on them and very happy with them.

Plenty of grip and a much quieter and comfier ride than the bridgestones that were on it before.

Also got 452's fitted to rear of the VRS (because of the crappy dunlop sawtoothing) - so far they seem fine and again much quieter and more cushioned ride. When the Avon's on the front (fitted by dealer when we got the car) need replaced, I will get 452's again.

Cheers

Dave

Ive been running company cars for the last 9 years and I always had Goodyear NCTs fited and could never fault them.

Problem is they dont do NCTs anymore so I thought I would try the Hankooks that the fitters recommended.

I can only compare with the standard fit Dunlops that came from the factory which had loads of grip but they were very noisy.

Any the Hankook have superb grip in the dry but in the wet you need to be very careful. Even slow cornering they can slip around.

I do drive the car hard but when you do 1000 mile a week you tend not to drive like a lunatic.

Its now my 4th Octavia so its not down to the fact im not used to the way they handle.

I think Ill be going back to goodyears after these wear out which wont be long.

I went from bridgestones to Falkens on a z4... Like night and day. Good price and very good grip, no tramlining and much quieter.

Costco are doing 20% off if you buy 4 michelins, since their price are good normally it is a bargain when this offer is on. only on for a few weeks so take advantage if you are a member or know a freind

I was always a Goodyear NCT fan, very hard wearing so was gutted when they stopped doing them.

Tried their replacement the Duragrips but no where near as long lasting
