505 01 oil from Halfords?

Featured Replies

Wow

Well I've given up trying to find VW 505 01 oil at a service station. I was passing the Skoda dealer today so called in and asked for some. It wasn't on display - had to be retrieved from the stores.

Usual stuff from what people have reported - white bottle -

The real answer to that question is YES - it does use oil apparently mainly during the running-in period. Personally I don't care if it does or not, as long as I have the oil in my car. I have ALWAYS had spare oil in the car, for any car I've ever owned.

Most of them take any old stuff anyway, due to the age of the vehicles I used to drive (and still do). The Furby will get it's own spare bottle ;) - Might even remember to buy it when they debadge the car when I pick it up :)

Whilst I respect your right to comment, it appears that you don't yet have a car and are answering based on postings you have read - whilst I'm quoting from 3,600 miles of ownership reality...

It seems from reading this forum that some Fabia vRS's DO use oil but others DON'T - and those that do can sometimes use it early in life and sometimes rather later.

I suppose this could be due either to manufacturing tolerances, or to the way the car's run in - if Honest John can be believed (and despite what others say he is fallable in his knowledge...), or to the amount of performance extracted on a day-to-day basis.

The conclusion can only be - keep checking the level!

If you want 505.01 and not pay silly money for it, you can always contact me.

I did a "group buy" recently and the prices are still there.

Cheers

Guy

Yep can't fault Oilman on this I ordered one day and the next day it was with me and was cheaper than the VW stuff but just as good.

Well I dont have Fab vRS, but I do have a Superb with pd130 lump. I have also had an Octy tdi (90), Vento TD and 4 VW Transporters all with TDI (2.5 )lumps in them, and they have ALL used oil until around 6-8k miles, then after that nothing.

I would also add, that the oil useage didnt start until around 4k either.

Thanks - I presume you mean http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=21654 - however you're only selling the relevant oil in 4 litre amounts.

I just wanted 1 litre in case my car decides to start using oil at some point before its first service. I always get my principal car dealer serviced so hopefully would have no need for 4 litres.
