just ordered a Yeti SE ,GAP insurance?

Featured Replies

Well, after reading the posts on this and other areas decided to part ex my 51 fabia TDI estate for a Yeti SE,we test drove a two wheel drive petrol version, seems fine on the road and even the pitted car park at the "Burnt Stump"was no problem, only downside is the wait,we are talking months, a few of them at least.

We are this time taking out gap insurance,we had a previous Fabia written off by an uninsured driver, we had the brand new car for less than eight weeks when the twerp collided with us (old story, "borrowed" his dads car, load of mates in the back and lost control in the rain) leaving me with no car and a shortfall in replacement costs!!!

Hopefully if something untoward happens again there may be less problems, does anyone have any dealings with this gap insurance?or is it better to have a policy that will cover the total cost of replacement car, like for like? if any are available.

Don't take the Skoda GAP insurance. You can get better cover online for a third of the price.

There are three main types of GAP cover;

1- Return to Value- If you are in negative equity it will pay the shortfall to your finance company.

2- Return to invoice- Pays you back what you paid for the car (this is what the Skoda one is)

3- Replacement car- Gives you as much as you need to be able to buy a new car to the same spec.

If you have got any sort of deal or discount on the car then number three is by far the best option.

We took advantage of the VAT free deal and got an additional discount when we bought our car, so if we needed to buy a new car equivalent to ours and the VAT free deal was no longer running we would need to pay about £4.5k more than what we paid for ours.

For this reason replacement car cover was a no brainer for us.

I used EasyGap. DO a google search and you'll find most companies are similar prices.

Thanks for that, I will check that out,

Hi there - just got a new Greenline and insured it with Skoda. Gap insurance was included, so don't pay extra for the separate gap insurance offered by the dealer.

It'll be worth the wait - we've had our tangerine Yeti for a week now, and I'm very impressed so far!

I know some insurers cover the full cost of a new replacement car as standard for a limited period.

In the case of lv who I am currently with, they pay for a new replacement if your car is damaged to > 50% of the purchase price or stolen in the 1st 12 months of ownership.

It is worth looking into what various insurers include as standard in their policies.

I have just taken out Annual Skoda insurance and was told that it includes full replacement in the event of write off for the first 12 months. Hope this is correct!

That is fairly normal for a new car.

Thanks, in fact I have just re read the post and svejk Posted 19 June 2011 - 17:20 and confirms that it is standard with Skoda Insurance.

My previous insurance company quoted for the Yeti and said:-

"The policy excluded the New Vehicle Replacement if damaged more than 60% within the first year."

So I guess you do have to ask the right questions.

Ala is one of the most well known companies.

Here's a 10% off voucher code for them too

More info to decide on insurance issues while we are waiting for our car, we have plenty of time to do so, seems a wait of months is the norm( sorry, Im moaning again) " the chocolate bar is never as big as the wrapper" hence the questions over GAP insurance,Mrs C understands!

Thanks again, Crabfat
