No turbo boost on tdi Octavia FIXED

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My dad owns a 2004 Octavia tdi 1.9. He says it's a D type whatever that means. Recently his had to replace the

alternator pulley (clutch packed up)

crank pulley (rubber had split)

Air con compressor

Now a few weeks later the engine light came on and the car has no boost.

Dad is getting a bit down over all of this as it's costing him loads. I brought him a few bits for the car but this is starting to get expensive for us.

First we thought the turbo variable parts had seized but there is no vac to the turbo.

The vac pump on the engine is OK. However we suspect the vac ECU is faulty.

There are 5 outputs and 1 input on the ecu for vac pipes. Only the EGR vac is working.

If we connect the egr vac pipe to the turbo it spins up OK.

Can the ECU be opened and has anyone else seen this problem?

ECU codes say low map pressure and no boost.

Pipes are not blocked.

ECU makes a few sounds when car is switched on and off.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Martin

Sounds like the sticking turbo vanes, does the fault reset when you switch off & switch back on?

The vanes can be cleaned. Can you get the fault codes read?

Hi,

Sorry I wrote it down wrong. Turbo spins when vac pump (lots of vac) pipe is put directly to the turbo. I don't think it's a duff turbo.

Thanks Martin

Has the car also become very smokey? Given the work that was done recently I'm wondering if it's something as simple as a popped hose joint on the turbo-intercooler-plenum circuit.

tiny vac leaks can make a lot of difference, if you still suspect the "box of tricks" try a search on Seat cupra net I think there was something on there a long time back under Ibiza mk4

Hi all.

No smoke, Infact the car max speed is a good 30mph and is gutless. For example pulling away from lights witch foot down hard it does not hardly move. Just crawls away and slowly speeds up.

Bit odd when I think about it because even with no turbo it should move quicker then that. I can not find any leaks. I know the box of tricks holds pressure because when I unplug the pipe connection block it makes a pffftt sound.

btw it's an DSG auto

Thanks for the heads up. I will go search that forum too. Thanks

OK all I found was turbo vanes playing up on the forum. Since I don't know the real name of the black box it's hard to search :-(

sounds more like fuel stavation or egr stuck open how many miles? "box of tricks"="solenoid valve block"

I had a similar problem with my 2.0PD140 a few months back.

No boost at all and struggled to build up any speed and wouldn't reset by rurning off/on the ignition.

Took it to an indy, who diagnosed it as a faulty solenoid block sitting at the back of the engine bay.

£160 for the part from TPS and a quick 5-10min swap over.

These are now the faults. I'm happy this is final.

What is a N75 valve? Not the black box is it with 6 pipes?

EGR is plugged into that box thing.

Cheers all

Drove it to work and back. Went to drive it today and the same problem. Same faults.

Box needs checking. We just don't understand it. :----(

the only other thing springs to mind is the one-way valve/Tee piece near where the vac pipe joins the pump --worth a check---------gets choked with oily crap

Am I reading this right ? Your shorting pins to ground to check for sparks ? This is a sure fire way of knackering electronics in double quick time. If your replacement box has failed after a day I would suggest not shorting pins on the next one !
