EGR Oil Leak

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have an Audi A3 1.9TDI with a PD130 engine. AZS I think. It leaks oil a little bit and I am 99% sure it is coming from the EGR/throttle body. Now I would like to sort this out and whilst searching on eBay I came across this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-1-9-TDI-EGR-Valve-Delete-Kit-Race-Pipe-PD130-PD150-/130533428970?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e64660eea#ht_5415wt_829

Its an EGR delete kit. Assuming the oil is leaking because of the gaskets I am sure this would fix it. However, what would happen about the throttle body? And the pipe that connects to it, it has a funny dog collar type connection, not sure how it would fit onto the delete kit.

I have taken a photo of my EGR, you can just about make out the oil underneath it, it's a little messy underneath.

Anyone have any experience on this?

I haven't had this personally but I hear its normal.

It's certainly not normal. It's not uncommon, but not normal.

The only problem with a delete kit is they may start failing MoTs as of next year.

TBH I'd just look at replacing it with a new one.

Also there is no throttle body on TDIs

EGR diaphram is leaking, the oil will be coming from the small hole below the 'saucer section'. New EGR valve needed.

I have the asz engine and my egr was like yours and was very bunged up inside the egr and underneath leading to exhaust gas pipe was caked.

Replaced mine this week for a new one.

do a search for stealth mod on Fred's TDI http://forums.tdiclub.com loads on there mine's passed 6 MOT's since

i thought that thats what that wee hole would be there for, it does look like its the gasket to me tho, once i fitted my oil catch tank the oil stopped running from the hole :)

Until now, unless you had a particularly arsey MOT tester, you'd not have had an issue with a diesel car. Although in theory, you can currently be refused for "missing emmssion control equipment" which people take to mean cats but can also mean elephant hose mods (VTA breathers) and missing EGR.
