Hi Everyone,

We've owned an Octavia TDi for nearly 8 years now since new (53 plate) and are thoroughly satisfied with it.

The reason I've joined the forum is that we're having a couple of little niggles with it now - it's always serviced each year by me (after the warranty expired) as I like to get my hands dirty and know it's done properly. It's no disrespect to you garage people out there but we have had some bad experiences in the past and I have lost faith with what I am told by garages now.

Currently we have the common drivers door not locking with the keyfob syndrome (everything else is just as it should be except the little red LED is not flashing either) and having tried another lock mechanism in the door and the spare keyfob it is still the same. I'm keen to get myself a VCDS / VAGCOM set up as we don't plan on changing the car and it would also do for my son's Golf so hooking it up may just point me in the right direction towards fixing the door lock problem.

That'll do for starters - the only other problem we have ever had was poor starting in the really cold weather earlier this year and changing the coolant temperature sensor on the back of the engine block seems to have improved things considerably.

At the end of the day ideally I want to avoid £60'ish trips to the dealers just to get diagnostics checked each time .

Regards,

Gary
