Who said the Fabia vRS couldnt get below 6 seconds 0-60?

Featured Replies

GPS timed proof of my car repeatedly hitting sub 6 seconds in the dry and against a headwind. The 6 second runs are after it rained.

And i won the trophy for the fastest in class B)

Not me, my diesel does it in less than 6 seconds too.

So no brainer on a tweaked twincharged mkII.

Good to see the quarter mile times as I'm off in 2 weeks to Santa Pod. I'll be able to compare.

The times are well down on santa pod times for everyone. Overcast with drizzle and headwind. Speaking to guys who are regulars at the pod they expect around 0.5seconds faster times at the pod compared to brunters today.

Ill see if i can get the vid of trevors and mines Mk1 vs mk2. both around 200hp. Filmed from his car

Just checked online for the results and the fastest of each class

Seat Cupra stage 2+ (330-360hp) came in at 0-60 5.44 seconds and 1/4 mile 13.787 seconds. (normally sub 13 at the pod)

mk5 Golf GTI K04 (330-360Hp) came in at 5.09 seconds 0-60 at 1/4 mile 13.756 seconds (normally sub 13 at the pod)

Mk5 Golf GTI k03 (280hp)came in at 6.17 seconds 0-60 and 1/4 mile 14.33seconds (similar spec cars hit mid 13s at the pod)

So you can see the times weren't that fast today due to the conditions but its all relative. My car is running the best part of 70-150hp less than the above and they didnt exactly beat me by much

Justin the guy in the k03 280hp GTI raced me twice because he couldnt believe id beaten him

Very impressive!

So what mods ya done?

  • Author

standard, well that what i was telling people who asked

Very quick, actually makes the 7.3sec standard time look rather pessimistic but then theres plenty of proof in the motoring press of standard cars doing 60 in plenty under 7

  • Author

mine is hugely faster than stock so i wouldnt say pessimistic at all.

what i will say is its dificult to launch. All my runs were done from tick over as you cant keep the car regs up when stationary in gear, because when you hold the brake it cuts the revs.

So i had to hold a my foot on the brake and then bury the throttle on green. If we could hold the revs up to 3k when stationary for a proper launch id have been alot quicker i think

My mate found using his handbrake in his boca helped, there is a delay when lifting off the brake onto the accelerator otherwise. He is running similar power to you and managed a 13.something @ the pod with strong headwind.

Tried the hand brake but it creeped forward

You,ll never match the pod times. That's a proper glue prepared strip. Bruntingthorp surface is more like a pavement lol.

Hi Si,

Defo if your car is running mid to low 5's with 30 extra HP, it's reasonable to say a standard car could pull 60 below 7 secs. Various press cars have run it between 6.4 and 6.8 secs which is really good anyway. Your car is damn quick mate!

0.5 seconds 0-60mph or off the quarter mile time?

1/4 mile. Time. Although I think I could improve the 0-60 with some stickier tyres

What your not factoring in is the gains across the entire rev range. Its only 30hp more than stock when you look at peak figures, but in the mid range I've got over 60hp/60lbft gains and that's where it mattrs

What matters is the amount of area under the power/torque curves and not the figures

I won't be doing it straightaway but if I get my car remapped by Shark, will it be the same map as yours?

  • Author

Id imagine it would be there or there about. All cars are slightly different

Impressive figures  any idea what times Trevor was running as a comparison?

  • Author

High 6's. 0-60 and mid 15 1/4 iirc

Janner, you have modded your downpipe have you not? I am pestering Milltek about when they will have a TBE system for the estate as I really want a bit more of a gruff sound as well as the stainless finish right through.

Did Shark say that a system such as a Milltek would have any bearing on the map results?

Prob slightly more power than I have on mine. Im running a butchered oem downpipe

nice one simon, makes you realise just how quick a lightly modded mark 2 goes!

*sssooooo tempted....

Sweet :)

Good going there, and nice to be able to prove it can beat the Golf boys too :D

I should think, power, weight and DSG altogether = win :)

backing what your saying up a little, vRSLOZ(std but for a revo filter) managed a pretty consistent 6.6 at Brunters today. Although yesterday we were plagued with rain on and off and cool weather, today they were plagued with sunburn, with the Polo GTI making 6.8 iirc. there might be some truth in what you say i guess
