slow returning seat belt

Featured Replies

my drivers seat belt on my mk1 superb seems to take forever to return and keeps chipping the door frame when I get out, just a silly niggle I know but does anyone know how to get it to return faster like the other belts in the car?

cheers

Tom

mine does the same in my mk1 fabia i pull it out more and it goes back faster but other than that you may need to replace it because its used the most out of all the seat belts

Have you tried cleaning it?

Sounds too simple, but pull it all the way out, get a damp soapy cloth and give it a good wipe up and down. It's amazing how much fluff can build up on stuff over years.

Make sure that you can keep the entire belt out until it's dry. A clippy type peg usually does the trick for that.

sounds good will give it a go!!!!

If the belts still stick after cleaning and drying out, spray it on the underside with anti-dust spray, silicone release compound, valet shine or similar, basically a spray with a bit of silicone in it, intended for fabrics and/or other gentle stuff.

I was putting up with dodgy belts on my both Skodas for 5 years. The Superb's rear seatbelts were so slow you had to feed the belt to fully rewind it. Some time ago I sprayed the belts with silicone release compound (some old stock from Miller Oils) and since then they wind back almost instantly, like they used to do new. They still lock fine, in case you wondered :)

I have some silicon spray in the garage! worked a treat on civic window runners! will give it a go!!

I'd still clean the belts first, and generally the less spray you apply the better, you do not want the belts fouled up. But it does work well.

They all do this, hopefully the clean trick will sort it.

fixed mine by wiping them with a cloth I'd sprayed with Mr Sheen!
