Sat stationary, engine on, windows wind down after about 10 mins

Featured Replies

Hi all,

It's a hot day today and after a drive from Boston up to West Yorkshire we stopped off for some food. Had the AC on for the drive and kept the car running with it on while we ate (I know I must hate the environment!) to keep it cool for us and the kids.

After about 10 minutes, all four windows decided to open by themselves and I was unable to close them until I switched the car off and on again. The AC stayed on throughout. This happened again after about another 5 minutes and then again after another 5 minutes.

Does anyone know if this is a feature of some kind? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me I have to say, especially since the AC stayed on.

Cheers,

Dan

That should not have happened and is not normal.

That is strange indeed mine had better not start doing that. If its doing it religiously every 5 min it would blow my initial dodgy remote unlock button lowering them theory. Which might I add I discovered by accident on mine freaked me out at first...

Safety feature? to stop suicide attempt? :peek:

Well it sounds like I'm not the only one who thinks it's strange! My timings were approximate as I wasn't expecting it!

I'm going to have to take it to the dealer anyway as the engine warning light came on before our trip at the weekend. It's possible these two things are related of course, seems unlikely though.

Let me know if you've seen anything similar on your's.

Cheers,

Dan

I have found sometimes you can't open the windows after you start up for 10sec or so. When asked dealer he said the battery needs a few sec to recover after start and this is a feture of vag cars. Sometimes it works right off other times a good 10sec. Odd

I'm so glad you mentioned that, my Scout has been to the local dealers with the exact same problem and so far has completely stumped them!

+1

to stop people from gasing themselves with the exhaust fumes.

why else would someone leave the car running for such long periods of time!?!?!?

....apart from eating in the car cause its hot outside.

You've never been on the M25 during rush hour... 10 minutes stationery is not unheard of emoticon-0108-speechless.gif

don't you wish Skoda would put all these features in the brochure, i see the new june 11 uk one has got a better rather than just say car and very basic info...

And how would opening the car windows help?

Car in garage, garage door closed, engine running...

Oh! maybe it's to speed up the process

Also catalytic convertor removes carbon monoxide so exhaust fumes are no longer toxic; only way you would die is if engine reduced oxygen levels sufficiently, but then the engine would stop. That applies to petrol engines - not so sure about diesels.
