Windows 7 Home Premium Disc

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am looking for someone to help me out if possible. I have recently purchased a new Acer netbook that came with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit edition. The problem is that it came with HUGE amounts of bloatware installed. I could uninstall everything I dont need but would prefer to do a clean install. Could someone oblige by sending me an ISO image of the 64 bit edition if they have it? I know i could download it but I dont have a sufficient download limit on the package I am on to allow me to do this. I am kicking myself because I recently sold my retail version of Windows 7 and I only made a copy of the 32 bit edition. I am not looking for a COA just a disc as i will use the COA from the netbook.

I hope someone can help and I would be willing to part with some Kudos if required.

Thanks.

but would the presumably OEM key from your lapdog work with a "retail" disk?

i can send you a copy of a retail disk if you like :)

It's unlikely the key will work with a retail version, Give it a go and good luck though.

You'll need a copy of an OEM disc

As said, you'll need the correct type of installation, to work with the key you have.

I'll have a look to see what I have, and if anything looks suitable I'll drop you a PM.

Steve

Thanks for the replies guys.

I thought Microsoft done away with all the different installation discs with Windows 7. I was under the impression that there was one installation disc that did 32bit and one for 64bit edition.

I used Product Key Finder last night and it produced a different key from what was on the COA sticker.

That's right, it will be the corporate key used by acer in their software build. They then attach a licence sticker in case you need to do what you want to do.

You should be able to use any Win7 installation disc though. However, if it's a netbook, it should be Win7 Starter which is 32bit and might not be recognised by a disc.

Any 64bit Win7 Home Premium disk will work, the disk is the same for OEM / Retail and Corporate. You can use any of these keys on any Win7 64bit install media. Check the key on the sticker is for home premium, and use that key to install from the 64bit media, not the key extracted from the key finder tool. To use the extracted key you'll also need the OEM certificate as well, which will need to be extracted from the windows 7 installation (quiet tricky to do).

The netbook is an Acer Ferrari 200 and it comes as standard with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit edition. The COA on the bottom states "Windows 7 Home Prem OA Acer Group". I know these manufacturers probably get kick backs from agreeing to install software from different companies but i think you should be given the chance to do a fresh install if you want and not just uninstall these programs because that just leaves a lot of junk files behind.

So how do I go about extracting this OEM certificate?

Sorry Mannyo,

I've just read your post again and understood it. I would only need to get the OEM certificate IF I was using the key that was extracted with the key finder software.

Could i take you up on your offer please?

Thats correct, otherwise just use the key on the label.

Did you get sorted? If not I'm pretty sure I can drop a copy in the post for you, in the next couple of days.

Haven't managed to get a hold of one yet. I would be very grateful if you could do that.

No worries - will check tonight and drop you a PM.

I'm sorry that I haven't seen this thread - If you still need help with this, please do give me a PM.

I know Steve tho and he has probably already sorted it for you.

Not had chance to check through yet I'm afraid. Will try to sort and confirm in the morning.

I've checked, and only have versions of Pro available.

Sorry.

Right. I have a Windows Home Premium (32 and 64 bit) and have the proper discs.

I have used the 32 bit disc I my netbook and used the Home Premium Lenovo code from the bottom of the netbook with no problems.

I'm having trouble locating all my blank dvd's right now but if I find them I will run you a copy off and stick it in the post.

Hi Phil

That would be great if you could do that for me. I only need the 64 bit one. I made an ISO of my 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium Retail disc when I had it. I never imagined I would need a 64 bit version so I never bothered making a copy.

Can't find my discs but need some anyway.

Will grab some from PC world while I'm up that way today. I'm sure they'll have some kind of offer on.

I should be able to burn it tonight then post it tomorrow so you should hopefully have it by Monday.

And got it... just the 64 bit!

PM me your address.

Cheers mate. PM on the way.

Just to follow up.

Installed Windows 7 Home Premium using the disc I received from Phil. Once installed used the COA key from the sticker. It would not activate straight away and it prompted me to call Microsoft. Got through to an automated service that gave me a long number (Not a COA). Inputted this number into the appropriate box and it activated.

Computer running a lot better now with a fresh install compared to when it was a factory install with all that **** that acer put on it.

Thanks again to all who helped and an especial big thanks to Phil.
