Yeh will give them a bell.

If I can't prove without doubt either way I will get it done anyway just for piece of mind. Got a good price on it anyway.

I assume they have ticked it to say they have checked it but who knows...

Guess if I get it done then I know for sure we have another 4yrs/60k withou worrying about it.

Phil

EDIT:

They will have copies of the job cards and there will be a computer record of the services.

Excellent. I should know either way then. Just need to wait till the service book arrives then I can check.

Had a shock yesterday when I got home and the only MOT certificate I could find ran out August this year when I was sure it was May next year! The previous owner put it through early before they sold it. Phew!

Oh yeh... forgot to say... Sven was well chuffed with it as the last three characters on the number plate are: "SVN". Who needs a private plate!?

Got the service book through yesterday and the MOT certificate.

Range the garage that had been doing the servicing etc and they didn't have it on the system as they changed their system last year.

He reminded that even if it had been done at 60,000 miles as it should then that was still 4 years ago so would be due anyway.

So getting it done tuesday as planned. Got a good price anyway. £200 for belt and water pump change.

Changed the front discs and pads anyway. Was pretty straight forward.

Just got to do the rears at some point but they should be ok for a while then I will also give it a service after it's had the belt done next week.

Other than that we're really chuffed.

Good MPG on the motorway on friday eve.

Phil

Sounds good Phil.

On the rears, they often need replacing as much out of corrosion and pitting than use! Typically they don't get much work at all.

  • Author

Yeh. They're not actually too worn and pads are really good but just coroding fairly bad.

Just ordered some off ebay. Discs and pads for £24. Not too fussed about the rears being super quality as like you say they don't get used much at all.

Phil

Sounds good. More to avoid MoT issues than anything else really! That's when most people realise they need something doing to them, rather than notice a degradation in braking performance....

How long's the ticket on this one?

  • Author

It was tested this may before the previous owner sold it so the brakes were obviously good enough to pass. The fronts started to grind after a couple of days later hence why I changed them. Once I'd got them off I saw that some of the disc surface had rusted/come off.

They seem good now though.

Cambelt and water pump tomorrow.

Good work Phil :D

Just been tinkering.

Fixed the broken wires going to the boot lid that were affecting the boot lock motor and reverse light. Replaced with some new lenghts of wire.

Also fixed the broken alternator load signal wire. It had broken at the connector on the passenger side as per a few threads I'd seen online. Now the battery light comes on and the fault code as gone!

Is it wrong that I enjoy the fact that the car has a few niggles that I need to fix!? hehe

Excellent news Phil.

No, that's the life of a car enthusiast isn't it :D It would be boring if everything worked, all the time.... you'd have nothing to do ;)

Cambelt, tensioners and water pump all done!

Also got my AUX in cable and fitted that today.

Stuck some new dust caps on the wheels that have little SEAT logo's on ;)

Also tried to tighten the bolt on the passenger seat but it appears to be cross threaded.

Also attempted to change the oil but the sump plug also appears to be crossed threaded! It's due it's oil doing too!

Phil

You're doing this all too quickly Phil. You'll have nothing left to do at this rate :D

Passenger seat bolts *should* be an M10 spline if memory serves. Ross will no doubt confirm. Can be had at the Parts desk...

  • Author

Lol. I know but trying to get it all done for when we go to Cornwall next weekend.

Already got an M10 Spline which fits but like I say I can't get it in any further. Tried taking it out and re-seating but still no joy. Will have another fiddle and see what I can do.

Changed the air filter anyway which seems to have alleviated almost all of the smoke out the back. Not that there was much to begin with but the old filter was pretty filthy!

Seing as though the sun was shining and I got it all mucky doing the rear discs and pads last night I gave it a wash, polish and wax. Run out of rainex for the windows though :(

Took a fair bit of work on the sides as it looked like they'd been driving through tar pits there was that much of the stuff!

So here she is:

Fairly warm out today too. Was sweating buckets! You can also see the aux cable I put in. Not completely decided if that's where it's staying though. There's something annoying me about it being there!

Looking good there Phil.

On the AUX cable, you could route it to the cubby hole below the stereo. Did that on both Fabias and Ibiza; just drill a small hole top left-hand corner and drop the cable through. Looks OEM and you'll never see the hole. Maybe add a non-slip mat in there as the Seats don't come with an insert there IIRC?

  • Author

Cheers. She's not perfect with a few stone chips and scratches that I need to touch up but she scrubs up pretty good.

Yeh. Thought about that. There are already holes in the top of the cubby hole so wouldn't need to drill. Would make it awkward to change track that's the only thing that's putting me off.

I think at some point I will just bite the bullet and stick a bluetooth kit in as we're already missing that from the pug as we had a JVC headunit in with bluetooth. Don't want to swap the headunit over though either as I prefer the OEM look! Parrot do one that also come with ipod, 3.5 mm headphone jack and usb connections to play music through.

Fair enough - good point about switching tracks. Was forgetting it was just AUX and not an IceLink/Connects2 :)

Alana is a particularly poor OEM HU though I have to say. The worst std fit I think I can remember in recent ownership...

Do you mean the Parrot RKi 8400? I had that one in the last Fab and while it was well specced it did have a tendency to freeze and not play ball. I got the unit replaced by them in the end, but seemed to me to be a case of bad firmware design TBH. They did release a later one, but didn't seem to be much improvement. If that's not the model you mean, then I'll be quiet ;)

If it were me I'd get a fairly simple Alpine single DIN with Bluetooth module support and iPod. That way your music quality will improve as well and it won't look out of place. Or you could look at adding a Parrot handsfree to give you features that way, something like the MK9200? I have a Bury kit ready to go in the Octy, the CC9060. Don't know if that offers music functionality though, as I've just bought it for the BT handsfree.

  • Author

The parrot one's I've seen are the MKi9100 and MKi9200. Also seen a Bury CC9060 at a good price but not sure that supports music over bluetooth.

Yeh it's probably not the best HU in the world but the sound is actually pretty good. Probably helped by the 6 speaker system and it matches well with the rest of the dash etc.

Will keep on looking and see what I can find.

One more thing... popped a boost pipe off on friday. It's the one coming from the intercooler. The clip has been broken at some point and it's been glued in at some point.

Dealer getting one on tuesday morning for me.

Phil

Sounds good Phil. Yeah the Parrot probably has more support for what you're after - I prefer the layout and design of the Bury though, and the screen is very good.

Ah yes, know the pipe you mean. Can be a bit of a weak point. The coupling where it clips in can also wear and pop over due to that too. So best off that you're getting a fresh one. Some more beefy clips, for marine use or the Mikalor ones can be useful too - as the std jubilee ones aren't always that great.

  • Author

Just won an ebay auction for a bluetooth kit. It's an IO Play one. Got some decent reviews online and should do everything we want. Can't moan for £38.

Just tied the boost pipe on with some string ready for the steady (off boost) drive to the stealers in the morning.

I will have another look round at all the other pipes and check that they're secure.

We're just glad it happened before we'd set off to bridlington and not half way up Garrowby hill! Or even worse if it had held till next weekend then gone when we're going down to Cornwall!

Phil

If you're feeling cheap, self tappers at 90o around the join with some silicone sealant. It shouldn't ever come off again.

  • Author

You know what I thought about that after we had abandoned plans to bodge it and got a lift to Brid instead. Could have just taken the metal ring clip out and got a screw in there.

Oh well.

The new pipe is only £24 so not too bad.

Well new pipe and 1 minute fitting time later all is well and I have boost again! Yay!

The smoke that came out the first time I booted it was unreal! ;)

Yeah, it's especially funny if you have a tailgater when limping it back after a boost hose has come off. One click blast and they soon back off :D

Phil

Just out of curiosity which pipe from the intercooler popped off? Mine was the lower pipe to the turbo. I'm just asking because I got charged £85 from a Seat dealer in 2007, which I thought seemed a bit much, so I'll be looking for a refund if they overcharged me.

Cheers
