Seat Cordoba PD130

Featured Replies

Ok then folks.

Going to look at a Seat Cordoba Sport SE 1.9 PD130 at the weekend and just wanting some advice on what to look for really. Think they share the same platform and engine as the Fabia correct?

I know the usually things to check on a car but anything specific to this engine?

Think they're Golfs underneath aren't they? Based on the Leon/Octavia.

No idea other than that though, except for the cambelt changes as per most VAG cars.

Nope it's the booted version of the Ibiza so it's the same chassis as the Fabia 1.

My bad - was thinking of the Toledos!

Just associated the name with a SEAT saloon and promptly forgot the Ibiza version.

FSH with oil type VW505.01 used at every service. Listen for top end rattles (hard on a diesel I know) when reved when warm. No excess smoke on WOT 2nd gear/ 3rd gear. Check for oil leaks from EGR valve (£180 to fix). If you can get it on ramps, remove engine tray and make sure Turbo VNT moves freely.

Thank you.

I have heard about the EGR many times before. Will this throw up a fault or just noticeable in the running on the engine.

Will give it some beans in second/third then and see what happens.

This is the vehicle in question:

Why do they have to have all those bloody plastic covers so you can't see the actual engine!?! lol

And yeh same as an ibiza but with a bigger backside! Esentially based on the Polo I've read.

The plastic covers just pull off, allowing you to see said engine

Well had a good look round the car today. All seemed in good order.

No funny rattles, all electrics (apart from both from fogs and rear tailgate) working, air conditioning ice cold, almost no smoke out the back at all, long MOT, one owner, full service history, body work in good condition (couple of little scrapes here and there), all looked good underneath (they hadn't jet washed it off as there was a little oil around the bottom but not dripping).

The bad points were like I say front fogs not working (suspect a fuse but haven't looked yet), the tailgate doesn't operate with central locking (there's power to the motor but it doesn't seem to work), rear box on the exhaust is getting a little rusty but seemed pretty sound when I tapped/rattled it.

So the conclusion is... it's sat on the drive.

Don't think I will be re-mapping etc as it goes like hot **** off a polished shiny shovel as it is (I have been used to 70bhp and 90 lb/ft of torque!)

Thanks for your help guys.

Phil

Sounds like a good buy then

That car is basically the same as the Fabia vRS, but with a bigger boot

  • Author

Yup! Bigger doesn't cut it though. It huge! Especially compared to the Fabia.

Really chuffed with it.

Phil

Well played Phil. Looks like you got a good one then.

Might have some Ibiza bits still knocking about. Will check for you. Certainly have some black plastic wing mirror covers if you want them (in case of breakage or you want to vinyl wrap them or something!) and some mudflaps I think.

Must go well compared with the Pug! You might still get tempted though :p

  • Author

Hey Steve.

The mudflaps would be great if you still have them!

Not too fussed about the wing mirror covers but might take those anyway too like you say in case of any incidents ;) I can always spray it red and stick it on.

Just looking into getting a second key done. It's not going to be cheap by the looks. £40 for a remote key then about £40 to get it coded by dealer as I don't have the little tag with the "secret" code on. Is there another way to do it?

Oh and I was being special before when I thought the front fogs didn't work... I forgot to put the side/headlights on first! Doh!

And yeh.. goes like stink conpared to the pug! I got the torque figure of the Pug wrong though... 88 lb/ft @ 2000rpm! Beast.

Sven had a drive last night and was quite shocked at how quick it wanted to get into double figures on the dual carriageway!

Can't wait to get to Germany in September ;)

No worries - will have a root through the spares section for you and let you know :)

Key coding - yes, is a bit of a pain. You could get a flip key and the blade cut to suit, *but* the issue is you have no transponder to swap over from another key and insert in, so the immobiliser will function. Could be worth investigating whether you can go this route and get a 'blank' transponder. Still think that would require dealer input though, to get that side working. Could be wrong though. On the 'secret' I don't see why a main dealer can't supply the SKC for you, based on the VIN and obviously you proving you're now the owner. I had to get the radio code supplied when I had my Ibiza and Trenton in Hull were the supplying dealer and helpful - supplied over the phone in fact! Not too far from you?

Glad the fogs are working! Using the switch correctly; shock, horror :p

Double figures on a dual carriageway? I'd bloody well hope so! Sure it wasn't a touch quicker than that?!

Cheers,

Steve.

Oh... and you need alterations now to your signature and profile car info emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Been looking into it all today on the seat cupra forum etc.

Basically I can get a new flip key off ebay that comes complete with the radio transmitter, key blade, blank transponder and a battery. I would then need to take it into a delear to get it the transponder coded. The remote I can programm myself using the door lock etc method.

Now that you have mentioned the possibility of getting the SKC code from Seat then that could save some money as I believe you can programm it yourself using vag com if you have the number. Could be wrong there though.

There is now a Seat garage in York. The local skoda garage (Martyn Beever) has turned into DM Keith which does skoda and seat now.

Ordered a new boot lock motor to the grand sum of £11.

Hehe. We didn't quite get into double figures but it wanted to!

And yeh. Thanks for reminding me Wardy. Will update my signature and info etc.

Will have to sort something out somehow regards getting the bits off you but I'm sure our paths will cross at some point or we can use the Brisky postal service.

Phil

Good choice Phil......I've got a soft spot for Seats too ;)

  • Author

Yeh. They're nice. Really like this one too.

One niggle though. I keep catching my knee on the climatronic and turning it up/down! lol

Just found my vag com cable and managed to disable the selective locking/un-locking as it was getting annoying having to press the button twice to unlock all the doors.

Also found an intermittent fault code about alternator load or something. Forgot to note it down.

Does your ignition light come on?

Check the plug in front of the gearbox, probably find the DFM wire is broken.

get yourself up to the lakes camping meet in august

Nope. No warning lights or anything. Seems that is a common problem and normally materialises in the TCS light coming on after 10 mins or so but that hasn't happened yet. There's a thread on Seat Cupra that I was reading about it and how to repair.

Will check the wire later and see.

And Dave. Hadn't seen the meet but will have a look and think we will probably come. Need to go camping at least once this year!

Got a big enough boot for it now anyway! lol

Oh yeh.

What is the recomended interval for cambelt on these engines?

There isn't a solid record of it having being done however it does have a full history and I can't see that the previous owners would have neglected to do something like that.

There is a box on the service record for the garage to tick titled "Toothed Belt". Is this the cambelt. And also is this just a visual check of the belt as it's ticked on nearly all the services.

Do Seat hold records of things like this?

If it does need doing I've had a good price for cambelt and water pump at £200.

Phil

Four years or 60,000 miles.

If you're not sure, it might be worthwhile phoning the garage that's stamped it and asking?

  • Author

Yeh. Will probably do that.

Just waiting for the service book to come through then I can see who it was and give them a bell. I left it behind at the garage when I bought the car. He's sending it on along with the MOT certificate that I also forgot!

Think they will be local-ish as the previous owners are from Scarborough.

Got some new discs and pads to put on yesterday. Was pleased with the price really. About the same that I paid for the pug. The rears are even cheaper about £30 for discs and pads. I had to get someone to do the rear brakes on the pug last time as with them being hubs I couldn't get the nut off so ended up being a few hundred to do them!

Phil

Toothed belt is the cambelt. Doesn't sound right that there's a tick in there on several services. Sounds like they've just gone crazy on a ticking exercise with a Biro!

I'd stick with the 4yr/60k rule.

If the same garage was used for most of the stamps, I would ask if they have a record of what work was done on each service. Should certainly be on a work sheet somewhere, just depends how they keep records like that, and if it's enter electronically anywhere.

They will have copies of the job cards and there will be a computer record of the services.
