Lol.

I think you're alright.

Mine was the one on the left hand side of the engine that connects to the plastic pipe and goes into the top of the intercooler.

Also the io play bluetooth kit is really good.

Works a treat and the sound for music and calls is really clear.

I had to do a bit of fiddling about at first as the live and switched live were the wrong way round so swapped them round in the connector and it worked after that.

Got the passenger seat bolt tightened in the end. Just needed to seat the bolt just right then give it some brut force!

Changed the oil with the help of a suction pump as the bolt still wouldn't come out... had a moment of horror though when the little rubber hose from the pump detached and sliped down the dipstick tube. Renched the dipstick tube off and grabbed it before it slid all the way in!

Was well impressed with our drive to Cornwall anyway. 4 adults, a boot full (and it's a bloody big boot!), air con on nearly the whole way and we weren't hanging about ;0) and the trip computer read 54.6mpg!

Phil

All sounds good Phil.

Remember you can alter the accuracy of the trip computer MPG readout with VCDS ;) - might be worth a comparison with a brim-to-brim calc emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Yeh keep meaning to do a brim to brim comparison but never get round to it. I don't think it's too far off as we got down to cornwall with half a tank still and the trip computer syaing 205 miles left.

I recieved a set of car mats I ordered the other day. They are genuine seat cordoba ones with red trim round the edges and the drivers one say "cordoba" in red lettering. Bargain at £14.99!

Also sven rang me at work today to tell me that as he pulled out the drive this morning he got a warning light and lost power steering. Switched off and back on it it worked again. Hoping it just needs some fluid as it was low when I had the battery out the other week. £7.22 from Seat garage for a bottle of that.

Phil

Had that once in one of the Fabias (I forget which one!) and it was only when I started up and immediately put lock on to drive out of a carpark space. As if the PAS system wasn't fully ready yet. Just wonder if that's possible in the amount of time between starting up on your drive, and asking for some power assistance for the steering?

  • Author

Sound possible.

They are electronically driven so the pump probably doesn't kick straight it unlike if it was belt driven.

Probably has to run a self diagnostic then kicks in.

Plus when the steering wheel isn't moving the motor gets no power so there would also be a delay there.

Was probably just sven steering before he's actually moved anywhere... I'm sure he gets closer and closer to the wall each time! ;)

Will grab some fluid and top it up anyway as it was low and not even registering on the dip stick when I last checked a couple of weeks ago.

I can also check on my repair to the hole where the gear leaver locking pin used to be... don't ask!

Topped up the fluid.

It was pretty low and miles off the bottom of the dipstick.

All seems fine now and no error codes showing up on vag com.

Also repaired the washer motor that was leaking and cleaned behind the wheel arch cover.

Changed the brake fluid too... was pretty yucky:

New on the left and old on the right!

EDIT:

Just been reading a few threads...

Didn't know about bleeding the clutch at the same time too! Oops!

Oh well I'll grab some dot 5.1 (I think that's the right stuff) that I've read about being recommended and do it again!

Well just got back from trip to Germany.

Was well impressed with the car.

Cruised really nice between 100 and 120.

Had a look at the logs on my sat nav too and found this:

Ooopps!

Good figures Phil!

Yes I was pleased!

And that's with a bit of a boost leak too (somewhere near the bottom intercooler hose I think)

Also still managed 44 and 47 mpg with three people and a boot FULL (it's a bloody big boot!)

We didn't go on the ring though... thought it was a bit much with three up and a boot full on cheap tyres!

Very good figures  its sounding like a good buy

Yeh. Couple of niggles but nothing major.

Will be under it this weekend investigation the little boost leak (I can hear a whoosy/squeeky noise inside but no real smoke coming out) and also cleaning EGR etc.

In general we love it and really puts a smile on our face! ;)

Just an update. This seems to have turned into a little project thread. Lol.

Had it in for it's first MOT (while I've owned it at least). I checked it over before and found both CV boots split so pointed that out to the garage. They then found a worn wishbone bush so stuck a new wishbone on. Other than that the car flew through and no other problems.

They are still in the process of fixing the coolant leak. I was worried at first thinking it might be head gasket (loosing about 1/2 litre in about 3 miles!). Turns out they have found it is leaking from where the collant pipes join the metal pipes that go inside the car into the heater matrix.

I put it in a month early as it is due on 12th May and we are going to Germany in it on the 10th. Also needed the coolant problem fixing asap!

Just got the cruise control to fit now... fun :(

Glad you're making progress Phil. Best of luck solving the coolant issue

All fixed! They changed some of the metal pipe work going into the cabin and also a couple of the coolant hoses and all seems well.

Also I haven't mentioned that I have a dragon digital tuning box fitted. Seems to be doing very well and has definitely made a difference (so the TCS light tells me) :)

Got another trip to Germany next month. Will be 4 of us in the car and no doubt the boot jam packed full. No doubt it will do very well with the better tyres (Barum Bravuris) and the tuning box.

Phil

you did have a mixmatch of tyres on ;)

the barum bavarius are supposed to be good. good reviews, ash has some on the front of her fabia :)a

nd the tuning box should be nice on the autobahns!

I have a tuning box on my PD130 and it's turned it into a right animal. Very worthwhile, just try not to drop the clutch if it's standard... :giggle:

Glad it's resolved Phil. Enjoy the autobahn roadtrip :D

Yes. Not one single tyre matched! lol

Yes I always set off gently (not riding/dropping the clucth straight out), never really bother with any more than 3000rpm and wait till I have lifted the clutch fully up before booting it again in the next gear. It really does give it a really big "shove" and pulls very very well even when using part throttle.

I intend on beating last trip's record of 138 gps. Pretty sure I can. With mine having the nice long gearbox and now with the extra ponies.

One thing I have noticed with the Dragon on is that a quick surge up the gears can knacker the intercooler... don't know if you're upgrading anything else but a new intercooler is a good place to start!

Out of interest, how big is the boot? Dad's interested in one...

HUGE! lol

485 litres apparantly! Basically we have no problems getting luggage for 4 people for a week away in it. And last time we did that we also had a big proper coffee machine all boxed up that we were taking to Germany with us.

We can also get two folding bikes and a few other bags of shoes anb other luggage in there.

The only downside is that the opening is smaller than the hatch so big items tend to be a struggle.

Phil

Does depend how much stuff each of the four people is taking I suppose though Phil ;)

That aside, that amount of cubic capacity in something Fabia-sized is mighty impressive!!

Yeh it does.

It's normally, with a trip to Germany, three large holdall kind of bags, a big bag of shoes (I have size 14 feet! lol), a cooler box, a couple of backpacks/shoulder bags, a few coats/jackets etc etc so quite a lot of stuff. It's normally brimmed to the top with the boot lid pushing against the stuff when you close it!

The rear suspension certainly looks a bit lower than normal. At least, unlike my felicia, the suspension doesn't bottom out with 4 people in! lol

But yeh.. in something Fabia sized it's massive! I think an octavia hatch from memory has around 550 litres of space? so not too bad.
