Super Pro or Oem Bushes ?

this car is starting to cost me a small fortune now , only had it 4 months and this takes cost past the grand mark ,,, thinking about getting rid now :'(

After reading this i called them and they have said its the threads in the console arms , you are right mate , and apparently this happens sometimes on older cars ???? Its 2 console arms being replaced.

Guess what those console units also include???......two new console bushes........they can't be bothered to push the old ones out (£8 cost each bush)!!!

The steel front pivot bolt and the aluminium console unit will get "dissimilar" metal corosion but any good garage knows to spray lots of penetrating oil into the back of the bolt (it is on a through thread) and leave it to soak! Don it myself several times on my 10yr old car...never bust the thread ever!

Best thing to do is to get on the phoneand state that you want the console units as you will dispose of them....then take them around to the scappies and you'll get some money because there's abit of weight in aluminium there!!!! B)

I will definetely get them back after this, thankyou , will be interested to see if there are any wd40 stains on the thread. Could do with the few quid from the aluminium as well now !!

All cars do have problems...the main common ones on Fabias are;

Console bushes

front anti-roll bar and bushes

front drop links from anti-rollbar to dampers

Steering angle sensor

The steering angle sensor is the most expensive part at £120ish.....but all of these are easyish to do...get a Haynes manual...unfortunatly there are a lot of dealers who like to charge top dollar (they do have running costs) where a simple fix is more cost effective and better. The troble is that sometimes their labour charges outweigh the cost of the item to be replaced so go for a quicker "box" swap...eg if a brake caliper sticks (usually the seal goes hard) a new seal/skirt kit for the front caliper is £10ish......but takes time to strip the piston/clean etc.....much quicker and cheaper on the labour to just replace with a new caliper (£90ish)!!!

I can belive it, my bolts were tight coming out and I snapped one inside the console

Hahaha at the spraying oil. If the steel bolt has fused to the aluminium you wont get any oil past, even if you heat it up slightly

Worked on mine when I did it 7yrs after the bolt was originally fitted at the factory....and that includes the 6 big winters that we get up here and the grit/salt!

Mind you it did take several soakings (from the back of the bolt hole) and leaving it soaking over night!! :giggle:
