Bit of Bolero VCDS coding assistance please

Bolero firmware is a dealer upgrade - not seen any CDs or DVDs floating on the web anywhere

You can check the firmware version etc if you enable the hidden menu thingy with VCDS and then hold the setup button on the Bolero down for about 20 seconds. Somewhere in the loads of useless info is the firmware, bootloader, hardware ID etc.

I think my Bolero was manufactured 12/2009 from what I can see

Agreed on those pinouts, I wouldn't be experimenting either! :S

Go on - put 12v on the pins and see what happens LOL

No don't! Were trying to get RID of fault codes, not create them! :giggle:

OK, the Bolero is a dealer upgrade, and so is upgradeable. Either that, or later versions have later firmware. So will earlier VERSIONS of Bolero units be OK with earlier CAN gateway revisions??? And more to Steve's problem, do later versions cause problems on early gateways? Steve, is this the same Bolero unit you had in the other Octavia, or a newer unit? If newer, that might be the answer to the questions.

Mike

Indeed - think we've seen enough radio/gateway related fault codes :)

This one is newer in age terms Mike, but the revision that comes up under 56 when it's connected is the same for both this and in my old Octy, when I looked back at old scan files.

It is in adaptation - there are only two documented channels - Hidden/Test Menu and Driving school function.

Update: Current K gateway still causing drain, so I'll track down an AD revision now - in the hope of closing out the issue :)

Mike's AD worked without problem or any errors, so fingers crossed.

If anyone sees one for less than £85 in the next couple of days (current best price on eBay) then give me a shout.

Cheers,

Steve

All it does it give you info on firmware versions, temperatures, signal strengths (which is available without enabling the hidden menu anyway) etc. Not much use really. The only thing you can do is turn loudness off, but then it sounds tinny at low volumes so can't see the point of that! I was hoping it would have an option for turning off CAN-BAP but it doesn't.

Can you take specific questions you have about the Bolero to another thread please?

Thanks :)

Result - the gateway should sort you out then.

Hopefully! Arrived this morning so should have it fitted at lunchtime emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Well the AD is now installed and coded. No faults codes from 19 or 56, so hopefully that's done and dusted :D

Will keep an eye on it and my fingers crossed for the next few days though, see if I can pass through the battery drain zone unscathed emoticon-0103-cool.gif

  • 4 weeks later...

Is there a list of CAN Gateways that are guaranteed to work?

I've just snapped up a 2010 Bolero, but not sure of what CAN's will/wont work...

Look in the for sale section - Eddie-NL has some for sale that will work at a good price.

General belief is something like a Revision K onwards is OK, but nowadays if you buy a new one it will be a lot later revision than that.

Cheers Andy

I've sent a few messages to Eddie and left one in his thread so hopefully he'll still have some :)

So pretty much any CAN gateway will work as long as it's a K or newer.. how old would a K be?

Ah cheers for that Mike.

I can't find any guidance on how to change the CAN gateway - is this a difficult job?

Have snapped up a CAN from Eddie-NL and he has kindly given me some instructions. Looking forward to some Bolero goodness.

Top job inexeng

Just need the CAN (also in the post) and the code out of my Stream (trip to the dealer) and I'm set.

Hmm...

I don't have a radio code, but strangely there is a 4 digit number printed on an envelope that I had when I was given the books... that wouldn't be the radio code would it??

(Hand written with "Skoda Octavia books s/key" and the Reg no. on it...)

Can't decide if it's the radio code... or their reference number for the car...
