Bit of Bolero VCDS coding assistance please

I tried a K in mine and had problems, so yes - quite right to get a later one from Eddie emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Entirely possible that would be the Stream code yes, it has been known! And yours would be of an age when codes were still given out as standard. Only way to know for sure would be to connect it upto another Octy though, and try that code.

Yeah I didn't want to take a chance on the gateway when it was only £70. It's been signed for by my father-in-law so chances are it'll be at home this evening.

I think the supplying dealer has hinted that they'd read the code out for me for free, but I do have access to another Octavia (an identical one, 05 plate) that I may be able to test with.

Might try that first before hassling the dealer any further.

I did, over the weekend, get the Bolero hooked up (to test) and it seemed to work fine - I think the backlight even works, but I wasn't sure. It was set to Brightest and I could read it fine, so I assume I have one that doesn't the backlight issues? I'll confirm when I've got it coded up and fitted properly.

The dealer really only needs the serial number of the unit - it is possible to supply the code with just that info. Just depends how helpful they are ;)

Brightness/backlight issue would appear to be gateway related, but I've not spotted a pattern yet. To me, the issue is only really apparent in quite bright daylight/sunlight though. You'll be able to compare directly when the new gateway's in though, seeing as you've got experience of it with your test fitment.

Yup, CAN received.

Top job Eddie :-)

Also - I note that there isn't really a full write up pinned anywhere (or am I just not seeing it?)

Was thinking about doing a full Stream -> Bolero with CAN upgrade guide?

Would be interesting to see how it works in yours ref the backlight. Do you have maxidot (I have a suspicion that you mentioned earlier that you didn't).

I had the backlight issue with the old and the new gateway, perhaps it is the revision of the instrument cluster (light sensor or not) that makes the difference?

I don't have Maxidot (sadly) though would prefer it. Maybe that's a future project ;-)

When I've got it fitted proper I will put pictures up

That would be great as I am about to do the same (as I cannot find any Columbus units other than 'A' versions!)

Mike,

Very true - I've already swapped them once.

However I may sell my Stream so would need the code

Would like to keep the stream and old gateway in case I buy another Octy w/o a Bolero...

OK then I'll do a full write up :)

While I'm thinking about it - how much would a maxidot set me back and how awkward would it be to do??

Not cheap, and you need to take to somewhere like Shark Performance to retrieve the immobiliser code from the cluster and program it to the Maxidot.

Ah really? Bugger it then

I've had maxidot before, and it makes such a difference on the Pre-FL Octy.

Maybe I'll save my pennies and get it sorted

Save a bit more and get a Stage 1 remap done at the same time, it will make the drive back from seeing Ben@Shark more enjoyable!!! The PD140 engine benefits nicely from a stage 1.

Decided to go and take the glovebox apart as a dry run - have confirmed that we have a Rev. F. Gateway in there.

Also

How long does the battery drain thing take to occur?

I have a spare hour this evening, and chances are I'll get it coded over the weekend. I know "better safe than sorry" to leave it until I've coded, but the Bolero, she does taunt me so...

Just as well you got a nicer, fresher one then emoticon-0148-yes.gif

So far I've not got the backlight problems - but I have read that a new gateway may introduce that...

We'll see over the w/el

Yeah, thought as much - I've taken it out anyway

All

Have now got the new gateway in the car + Bolero.

Coding all went fine, but I have one issue...

01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded

000 - -

Freeze Frame:

Fault Status: 01100000

Fault Priority: 5

Fault Frequency: 1

Reset counter: 0

Mileage: 61654 km

Time Indication: 0

Date: 2000.00.00

Time: 15:42:43

I have a Rev AC gateway - so that shouldn't be the issue.

I read Wardy's info in this thread, and he had that code as well, and it seems that changing from his old K to the new AD gateway had resolved this error code.

I'm a bit stuck now as I don't know how to clear this error... Any ideas??

Ta

Note, I get this error on both 19 CAN and 56 Radio

Any ideas??

I can clear it by taking Radio out of the installation list, but the little bugger keeps coming back...

Hmmm

Gone now!!!

OK after managing to code the car properly, and done a load of VCDS wizadry, I think I can call this complete.

Thanks to all who have helped :)
