Can anybody tell me how to get rid of the poxy engine light.

Featured Replies

as title, has somebody invented a way of getting my engine light off withought unplugging the bulb?

I'm fairly certain that it can't be mapped out on BLT engines.

Nope it cant.

No bodge to make the car think its all there and working well? I've herd rumours that jabba have a magic wond that can sort it out?

Ring and ask

It's a problem, which is why I'm still running the EGR. (as far as I know anyway!)

Why remove it?

Driving around with the light on would drive me nuts.

The only way I could see to get around it would be to effectivly convert to an ASZ set up with no throttle body.

An electronically controlled EGR system such as that fitted to your diesel Fabia reduces fuel consumption and NOx emissions while in lean cruise, it can also help reduce pumping losses and combustion chamber and exhaust gas temperatures where appropriate. It DOES NOT affect full throttle performance so I don't understand why you would want to disable it.

You soon get used to it tbh. Blocked mine off as I wanted it reversible, and yes, it annoyed initially, but you don't get irritated when the headlight indicator is on, so it's just a matter of your brain adjusting to the new light. After a while you really don't notice it's there.

New MOT rules in Jan will ensure an engine management light is a failure, so I guess people will have to:

a.) Find a friendly MOT testing station that will clear the light with a diagnostics, then do the MOT, then let the light come back.

b.) Just opt for the smaller gasket to reduce the effect of the BLT stutter and the EGR in general.

c.) Get the EGR turned down with VCDS.

d.) Take the bulb out of the dash.

becos combined with a working crankcase breather it clogs the intake with tar..

jabbasport disconnected my egr and i have no eml.

You're half right, the breather DOES gunge up the intake, but the EGR system doesn't.

Deleting the EGR system however does make aftermarket remapping sooo much simpler, although that ain't necessarily a good thing!

Like I said last time this came up, all the BLT`s from jabba have no light on so they obviously know what to do

By fudging an ASZ map in there a'la Sooty?

Speak to Ben at Shark.. ive got a BLT engine but his map allowed me to reconnect it as his map had turned the egr amount down so no need to disconnect the pipe anymore....

By fudging an ASZ map in there a'la Sooty?

Or leave it all working and connected.

 Shame it about the end result!

Wish I left it in.

Told ya LOL :)

Its not the lack of egr that brings the light on its the missing resistance from the eletronic throttle body motor, and to be honest any mapped fabia that doesnt have the egr values turned right down or off is bad news long term

My EGR simply doesn't exist according to my car. :) It's just gone, vamoose, nyada, n/a. :D

From what I've read on some of the above post's the EGR can be turned down, how is this done and will it cure the light popping itself on when travelling on light throttle for long periods when doing some eco driving?

Is this correct or have I read into it wrong?

It won't stop it when you have fitted a racepipe like me. I had it turned down and EML kept coming on. It wasn't until I got some fresh mapping by someone who knew how to remove the EGR from the system that I now have no EML at all.

The car is currently STD, it's just annoying me when travelling for long period's of time the EML light keeps popping on, even when travelling at 70mph. Mine is the BLT engine.
