Maybe buying a Roomster

Featured Replies

Ive had my Fabia Estate for two years now, and despite really liking the car there are times when I crave a bit more power... my car is the 1.2 HTP. We do some longer tips loaded up and the car has to be driven pretty hard to get any performance and hence the economy drops to very low 40s, with AC on and loaded up she does struggle a tad!

So, I thought if Im going to get a car with a bit more go, Id get one with a bit more space and the Roomster seemed the obvious choice. Now it just happens that my local dealer has exactly the car I want in stock.... 1.6 105hp, that new bright blue, two tone interior and an SE. Has roofbars too, unfortunately they do not have a Roomy demo, but do have a Fabia with the 105 diesel engine, so Im going to try that tommorow. They have tentatively offered 6k for my car, which isnt too bad but Ill try and get more if I like the diesel that is!

I think you are missing the full Skoda experience if you think just walking into a dealer and getting the exact spec car you want, doing a deal and driving off in the new car in anything less than 20 weeks is acceptable.

You need to agonise for weeks, finding just the spec and type of car you require, dismiss all other manufacturers and models or car, place a factory order and then spend the time you wait for the car to arrive on the forum discussing how long you are waiting. :giggle:

Only joking, hopefully the car will be just what you are looking for and you will be a satisfied customer with a quick turn around from decision making to purchase to driving off with the car.

LOL, I did exactly the same with my Fabia.... I was used to the very same experience with Fiat so this new found way of buying a car in stock appeals to me

Got the test drive in the diesel in a couple of hours. All Im hoping for is a little bit more for my car or a little discount on the Roomster, £300 to £500 will do it for me.

Best of luck... personally i would simply replace it with a Diesel Fabia estate that makes motorway crusing a little better... the Roomster is too like a Yaris Verso in that most people that drive them don't know what chip and pin is and still believe Rover makes the best cars.. but where forced to buy another car as Rover went bust lol

Best of both world, I have a Roomster and a Rover

The Roomster is a far more civilised, useful, car, but not as much fun

All I need now is a flat hat.

Ive had two Rovers!!!! Anyway, deal is done, pick up the Roomster on Saturday

Something my dealer told me today, Skoda UK have just "found" close to 750 cars (134 Roomsters) being hidden by dealers, they were just sitting there and not being declared by the dealers so did not show up as available stock. I was told any dealer being party to this practise is being fined £500 per car.

Seems like a strange thing to do but this is Skoda we are talking about.

Weird, my dealer had two mine and a TSi with DSG. He checked the system and said it was showing just Roomster HTPs in stock in the UK.

Love my Roomster, best car I ever had, lowered on Eibach springs, 1.9tdi chipped to 153bhp. Tonnes of space in the back, does 60-64mpg on (very) steady runs.... and absolutely flies when you put your foot down, entertaining enough for sure, goes round corner like on rails and has loads of grip. I approve, and bar for the poor quality of the scout alloys (rusting like a bugger) I have no complaints. I personally think that it looks better than an estate car, mines black with tints, 17" scout alloys.

(my 'real' average over several thousands of miles on the "fuelly" website is about 56.5mpg, I am a steady driver generally, cheapest car I've ever had on fuel)

just my opinion.

I have a Roomster and the wife has a Fabia estate. I would say that if you have kids and need to use the rears seats, get a Fabia as you can get more in the boot. If you don't need rear seats then get a Roomy as you can take them out and have loads of room

We dont have kids, hence the choice of Roomster  cant wait till Saturday, but I will miss the Fabia for round town.

Two sleeps to go, Fabias just had its last wash and clean out.... so looking forward to my new Roomy, its more "me" than the Fabia ever was :D .

I don’t find my 1.9 Scout a problem around town. It has a small track and wheelbase , and the steering is light , and precise.

When I was looking at Roomsters What Car including it in a test of “Superminis” which surprised me somewhat! So they must think it,s small.

My 1.9 diesel is a bit rough at low speeds , but I don’t find it a burden driving in town.

I recently had to travel into the centre of town , for a month through 40 sets of traffic lights there and back the consumption dropped to 46mpg, the only draw back.

....which is better than my old Schitroen Berlingo Diesel used to achieve on a long run.

Roomster uses Fabia front end inc bodywork, and rear axle from MKI Octavia, it is shorter than the Fabia estate and shorter and narrower than the Yeti yet it has more load space than the Yeti and is lighter than the Yeti....so Yeti in 2wd is pointless compared to Roomster (unless you like Yeti styling). I also think the Roomster has more loadspace total then Fabia estate (but FE has a greater load length).

P.S. as you can see I've do some research :giggle: ....well when the yeti first came out I almost bought one....but decided to hang onto my Fabia....then I had an epiphany......I was given a Roomster as a courtesy car!!!!!! So when my Fabia goes to car heaven I know what I'll be getting!!! B)

Ive got it! A day early too, as the weather was going to be so bad I asked if they could let me have it Friday, no problem. Fantastic car, much nicer to drive than the Fabia, feels more planted and the panomaric roof is brilliant. Im well pleased and so far the computer is showing fuel economy in the very high 50s.... its going to get very dirty over the next few days though :giggle:

Thats because of the wider rear track as it uses the Octavia rear axle!!!

And enjoy!!! B)

Oil question, it only says in the handbook to use VW 507 oil and nothing about viscosity or type of oil. I have some Castrol Edge 5w30 with a 507 spec that I used for my petrol Fabia. On the bottle it says its suitable for modern VW petrol AND diesels.... I always thought diesels had different oil so is it OK to use that oil I have for top ups please?

I don't know. I've had mine over 2 years and done 27,000 miles and the oil has never gone below the full mark. It's only had oil when being serviced.

Oil is slighty different between petrols and diesels....well put it this way how come when you see a big range of oils with the samespe etc that you have to watch off the "petrol" or "diesel"??? I wouldn't use the same oil!! It should say in the handbook what viscosity rating! if not ask the dealer's parts/service dept.

Ive looked through the whole book again and nothing about viscosity, just that its VW 507. Ive looked at the castrol oil I have and it says its VW 507 and is suitable for both petrol and diesel, surely Castrol wouldnt have got it wrong :giggle:

Castrol Edge 5w-30 says VW 504/507. And I think 504 is for petrol and 507 is for diesel.
