Tesco momentum 99 Ron

Featured Replies

400 miles?!! I couldn't get that if I drove with an egg strapped to the sole of my right foot.....

I get about 380 miles to £65 of fuel. I don't like to let it run too low so the OBC will normally still be showing 40-60 miles left.

But I drive like a nun most of the time to save money. Long term mpg was 35.7 but that's heading down now with the temperature.

That's on Tesco 99 mostly.

On my second tank of Tesco 99 and easily gettin 400 miles to a tank (£70)

35mpg.....how?.....how?

lol its easily done and i also think the remap helps as does running on 99 with a sensible head on.

35mpg.....how?.....how?

I got 37mpg this morning MWAHAHA.

I commute on a 60mph A road with very little stop/start traffic and that's is what lets me get the number up.

At a steady 70mph on a flattish road I can get 35mpg also.

Any overtaking, roadworks etc will very quickly bring it down.

And certainly no fun driving :(

A while back I had a long, no hold-ups run, and was in no rush, so I played about with cruising speeds. I found if I kept at a steady 58 to 60 on the clock, the mpg readout crept up and up, unless on a steep hill. Eventually it got to nearly 49 m.p.g! But then the hold ups started so I never got to 50. And that is petrol 1.8 running on Tesco or Esso 95. At my more normal cruising speed it sits on about 42 m.p.g.

On a 30 mile round trip on dual carriageway at 60 mph with cruise on (kids were sleeping so i didn't want to get home too fast), the readout was showing 45.6 mpg by the end. Very impressive for a 2.0 petrol. At 70mph it will hover around 41 ish. And yes, I do appreciate that the readout isn't 100% accurate.

I'm going over to the Lake District next weekend, A64 A1 A66. I'll see what I can achieve running tesco momentum.

Interesting thread; although I don’t have a Tesco near enough to home or on my commute to try Momentum, I have tried regular and high octane in my 2.0 TSI.

I ran a few tanks of BP Ultimate against the normal BP unleaded and TBH I saw no MPG improvement and possibly a little better initial pick up from low revs in low gears. I didn’t think this was worth the extra per tank, especially as I drive a high mileage. The only thing I thought of was back in the days of my driving old carburettor bangers, I used to hear pinking when booting it at lower revs – running up to a roundabout and going for a gap. With new ignition systems retarding ignition to get rid of pinking all I can think is that high octane retards less, so pick up feels better?

Anyway, I wasn’t convinced to pay more…
