in - gear 1.2 tsi comparison?

Featured Replies

When I bought it I had not had a chance to test drive any car with that engine in it, so I really didn't know what to expect from it. I had traded in a 2 litre Hyundai Coupe, which was pleasantly quick.

Drove out of the dealers in the Fabia, got into 2nd gear and :o

I seriously don't know why the manufacturers haven't done this earlier... because it's just better.

+1, I took my fabia on my normal work drive today and went up the same sliproad I always go up.. in my Auris I used to have to rev it to about 4-5k (coz its quite a steep and long slip road that comes off a busy roundabout). Popped the Fabia in 3rd as I got onto the slip road, was about 1.7k revs and woosh off he went, sailed past other cars, into 4th kept pulling strong up the hill, put it into 5th for the cruise onto the motorway and flipped Cruise control on. Effortless, you'd never think it was a 1.2 under the bonnet, never been in a 'small engined' car thats felt like this one. Even heard the turbo hissing today, was a very nice sound! The little 1.2 TSI has a nice gruff sound to it too, its quiet on tick over and when cruising... but when your giving it the beans it sounds brill! Lovely exhaust note from it too

Don't you miss the old 1.4 TDI at all? Is the 1.2 TSI very much faster than the TDI?

Yes. It is.

The car I test drove had 11 miles on the clock So obviously tight but it still pulled very well. Much smoother and progressive than the nothing, nothing, EVERYTHING style 1.4tdi. I expect to miss the ultimate thump that the tdi gives but I look forward to a smoother, quieter engine which hopefully will still entertain when the mood to floor it arises lol. :-)

Remember reading of a 1.2 tsi holding off a firsta st, which is really impressive, how's it so quick? Lol

The 1.4 TDI only has 195nm torque... the 1.2 TSI 105 has 175nm. Wont be that much different! Also remember the TSI weighs 1055kg and the TDI 1130kg

The TSI pulls very very well, drives like a diesel imo. Its defo a 'gruff' type petrol engine when its in the lower rev range but does get sweet, the exhaust note is very raspy and nice!

I have ordered the tsi 86 so it is 160 nm vs 195 so there is approx 20% torque difference.

Which I very much doubt you'll miss or notice... the TSI is peppy believe me :). The derv carries an extra 75kg (or 11.8 stone) so its like having another passenger in the car always.

I'm more referring to the power delivery of the tdi how I love the thump in the back you get at 1800 rpm. I love the kick lol.

I get that kick at 1500 with my tsi, it drives like a derv. Low end slug that goes up to the red line

The 1.2 tsi fly's up hills just like a diesel. The only reason you need a diesel now is for high mileage economy

Beltin'. Can't wait for it to come now. :-)

Hmm, that the 150bhp Fiesta? Maybe if the Fiesta wasn't ready for it, otherwise I'd expect the Fiesta winning every time.

The TSI is quick because of the turbo. Good low and mid range grunt, exactly where you need it for road driving.

Suzuki currently have a 95bhp 1.2 litre engine in the Swift. It doesn't have a turbo. You have to rev the nuts off it to get the power.

Yes Mike I test drove that suzuki car, not a patch on the Fabia & the boot was just useless. Too small

Don't know what torque figures the Fiesta is putting out and what revs that is delivered at but if you look again at the comparision of the new Focus vs Octavia 1.2TSI the Octy wins all the acceleration comparisons by several seconds despite having 20bhp less: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/front_website/facts_and_figures.php?id=269911

Well, the ST was a 2 litre. Still needed revved though. A Zetec S would be easy prey muhahahahahah.

Ahem.

Fair point about the Octy/Focus comparison. Shows that it's torque that matters. BHP gives you top speed, torque gives you acceleration.

Torque is what matters in the real world.

In the driving I do its all between 1000-2500 revs (which is 70mph in 5th) and the 1.2 TSI 105 has bags of torque around 1500 revs. You can make real progress without letting the revs rise. Although down at the bottom end it can be a gruff engine.
