Detailed my Fabia today

Featured Replies

After 3 full-on days of decorating to get my wee girls bedroom ready for her 10th birthday yesterday, my reward was a day to spend detailing the Fabia :D

I decided to take some photos along the way...

First up, foamed with Autobrite Foam Lance and Supa Snow Foam:

Now I know what my car looks like in white :)

I then washed it using Zymol shampoo and a woollen mitt.

After washing:

After this I clayed the panel using a Meguiars Clay bar and Quik Detailer to remove any surface contaminants - I was pleasantly surprised as the paint was in pretty good condition.

I then got my Kestrel DA out with a swirl remover pad and some Menzerna Super Finish and did 2 passes on speed 2, 2 on 4 and 2 on 6 on each panel.

Some pictures of the results:

I then put a coat of Collinite 915 to protect the finish.

The light was beginning to fade when I took these photos, will need to get some better ones tomorrow:

And I decided to debadge the rear end:

So now I know that the paint has been well cleaned and protected, I still need to do the roof but ran out of time today as this little lot took 9.5 hours (wasn't working flat out!).

Thanks for looking,

Steven.

Tidy

You missed one badge :D

Nice results. Makes me wish the mongrel was black - maybe something to consider in a couple of years time when the rot starts setting in....

Looks nice, black always does when it shiney. Needs some tyre gel on ;) I've just bought some Megs tyre dressing and I have to say its great, way better than the stuff I was using before hand. It says add a second coat for an even shiner finish so I whacked on 3 for good measure and a week later they still look. Would look even better on a black car.

I'm thinking about buying a DA to try and get rid of some swirl marks on mine. How much experience do you have with one? Was it easy to pick up or are we talking years of practice?

With a D.A. it's dead easy really. :) Would need to be a serious tool to do damage with one. :D

I've only recently just started to use a DA and I've acheived some good results (ok i cheated a little by wet flatting with 2000's) but it polished back up brilliantly :D

It does have 1 coat of Meguiars tyre gel on, but needs another!

As Devonutpoia says, DAs are really easy to get the hang of - I was a self-employed valeter from 1996-97 and used an old Sealy 1600rpm single speed rotary back then - that was scary! But the DAS6 is dead easy - I held it against the spot where my Fabia badge was for ages and had no issues.

 Looks awesome buddy, nice one!

Looks great. I love it when my black magic is polished up.

Get working on that exhaust tip though - it really lets the back end down - get some autosol on it... nice and shiny :)
