What fuel additives are people running?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Just wondering what additives people are using in their tanks and if there are any that you would really recommend.

Cheers.

Andy.

millers is very good eco max i think its called comes in a 500ml bottle but has a 50ml chamber at the top

yep im running millers diesel power eco max, the new version of diesel power sport 4 or something like that. gets excellant reviews and always nice to know that your running it :)

Yes, Millers EcoMax. And before that Power Sport 4. Have run it across numerous PD VAG units for about 5 years now. Highly recommended.

Available in Halfords and most motor factors. Some good deals via eBay sometimes too.

none.... Fuel is costly enough to add to that!!!

If the car runs better, smoother, quieter, with less smoke and better MPG then it's worth it in my mind. And it's more economical than going for a 'premium' diesel product.

Thanks guys i shall have a look at that! Always used to used premium petrol in my golf, so nice to know there's something highly recommended for me to put in the Šlowda :)

Many thanks!

Andy.

Agreed

Unfortunately in my 110 Octavia Elegance and Superb PD130 I saw no difference at all.

It did however quieten down SWMBO's Fiesta TDCi - but ATEOTD that was a F##d :giggle:

My car wouldn't know if I put something in the fuel, apart from more diesel. LOLemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Millers EcoMax. And before that Power Sport 4. The EcoMax was £10 for 500ml bottle when I recently bought it.

Normally Shell ordinary fuel with the occasional use of V-Power.

I'm just using Shell V Power diesel.

You think an additive would make any difference?

I had a fiesta tdci, noisiest diesel ever, sounded like a sewing machine through an amplifier!!

Which? magazine did a comprehensive test on a number of the numerous fuel additives out there probably about a year ago now - the results showed that none of the additives make enough of a difference to justify shelling out the high price for them in terms of better fuel economy and Millers was the only one that showed a very slight BHP gain due to it raising the cetane levels in diesel. If it makes you happy then use it - as some have previously stated it appears to make some cars run a bit quieter, but it won't make much difference to power or economy.

Hi all, found this on amazon for a good price.

I've used miller's for few months now in the vrs. It might be snake oil but I notice it being much quieter and smoother. Also, less smokey too. Not sure about mpg but the taming of the pd clatter makes it worth it to me.

Are these additives not similar to what is added to v power/ultimate?

Matt

I'm just using Shell V Power diesel.

I get slightly better economy and less smoke from using it, I also notice that the car starts very quickly when turning the key as a result of the increased cetane rating, helpful for the winter too, I run it alongside bp ultimate :)

I bought some Millers yesterday (never tried it before) and always use V-Power or BP Ultimate.

Redex is a good buy at the moment, £2.00 from Asda.

I know that Miller's stated on there CVL Turbo product for Petrol's that they did not recommend using it alongside V Power due to the different mixtures and addatives in the fuel, It may well be worth looking into the Eco Max to make sure it doesn't state anything similar when used with V Power Diesel.

V power has cleaning addatives in the fuel to help keep carbon depositis down to a bare minimun and a slight octane boost aswell. I'd imagine Ultimate is similar

Millers and V-Power 4 life ;)

I had a fiesta tdci, noisiest diesel ever, sounded like a sewing machine through an amplifier!!

Got rid of a zetec s to get the vrs , fiesta was a horrible bag of spanners, dont think there was any bulkhead insulation at all, horrible horrible car, got rid after just 3 months lost a fair few quid on it

I used to put 5% biodiesel into my Fabia vrs, and it quietened it down and minimised the smoke. Can't find a reliable source of it now, though.

And despite the regulations, I doubt that pump diesel contains its full ration of biodiesel yet.

I have seen a response from a letter to shell saying that Shell Fuel Save Diesel actually has more Cetane than V-Power. However they did say V-Power gets more performance in other ways.

I use the millers mentioned several times above and also something we have in our shop called Dipetane,
