Got our Yeti

Picked up our Yeti last Tuesday from Autofinders in Chesterfield. We weren't exactly sure what we were getting: started off ordering a Muscovado SE Greenline II at the end of April (expected delivery November), changed our order about three weeks ago to Muscovado SE 2.0tdi 110 4x4 (expected delivery 6 months) and collected a Silver Elegance 2.0tdi 140 4x4 on Tuesday (someone else's cancelled order). Autofinders were good to deal with, too.

Tied collecting the car in with a few days in Derbyshire, staying at Cromford. Great countryside for getting used to the new motor. Spotted an identical Yeti in Cromford on the Wednesday but no others. Easy drive back home to West Wales on Thursday, 600 miles 'running in' done so time to get a tow bar fitted.

It's fab, and way too intelligent for me - paired up the mobile phone last night, no idea where the microphone is but it must be there somewhere 'cos the person I was calling could hear me loud and clear. Must be magic!

Highly delighted with the car.

Congratulations on beating the long wait and picking up a better spec at the same time. Very pleased we went the Elegance route for our current Monster the extra kit works very well, particularly like the xenon lights and although not normally a fan of leather upholstery, I prefer them over the type of fabric used in the SE.

Regards,

TP

It's good that you're happy with it - long may it continue. Would be interested to know a little bit more about how you got on with Autofinders. You would have rung round I imagine and maybe called Drive the Deal as well as local dealers and presumably went to AF because the deal was good. Was it their offices that you attended to collect? Presumably they don't keep stock and you collect from them, whatever make you go for, and, like DtDeal, pay on collection? They sounded very accommodating with you.

I also found the gadgetry a little daunting and still don't claim to have complete mastery over the thing but at least now know what I need to know and find it OK. Love the Muscovado but you can't go wrong with silver - always popular when you sell on. I'm sure you'll get answers here to any queries you might have.

I think you are undoubtedly correct, Tim, that buying the top spec you can is the most sensible option, rather than going for a lesser spec and adding all the options. When it comes time to p/ex those 'extras' will have very little influence on the price you are offered.

And wasn't the OP just the luckiest, eh? Well done on that "blind date"!!

Croeso, Jane.

Soon we Welsh Yetiists will outnumber the Tykes.

Glad you are enjoying the ownership, but how about giving us a bigger clue of your whereabouts down in West Wales in your details?

Autofinders are providing my car which is coming end August.

Their offer was cheaper than Drive the Deal (through whom i bought my current Fabia) and they have been excellent in keeping me informed of progress and responding to any questions. Only one negative so far: they say they are not able to provide the 'compensation' for long delivery times which main dealers do.

As the car has not yer arrived i can't comment on that part of the deal, but they do not require payment until the car has been seen.

just noticed you have a 2CV. Ours was the most fun we have ever had in a car and, although i am looking forward to my Yeti (understatement), i suspect it will offer fun in a rather more grown-up and sensible way. Unfortunately, someone rear-ended us at 2mph and wrote it off!

No problems with Autofinders at all - I'd recommend them. They gave me the best price on the original order - I tried them, my local dealer (Fred Rees Garages, Haverfordwest), Telfords (Carlisle) who had an offer on the weekend I started looking, James at Allams, and DriveTheDeal.

Autofinders were very helpful when I wanted to change the order, looking for alternatives that were affordable and would mean I didn't lose my deposit. At this stage I looked again at what DriveTheDeal could offer and checked out Autoebid. Autoebid were competitive, DtD weren't. Had I gone with Autoebid I might have been slightly better off (even with the lost deposit) but I'd have had a six month wait.

You're right that Autofinders don't keep stock - my Yeti came from Telfords, Carlisle - and collection is from Autofinders' office in Chesterfield. I'd bank transferred the money to them, with the balance being the p/x on the car I traded in. (I'd have tried selling this privately had there been time.)

Prynhawn da, Jane.

I learnt a bit of Welsh when I went to school in Ha'fordwest and had friends around Crymych, but then moved to englandshire! Now back nearly 40 years later and starting to pick it up again, but there isn't a lot spoken around here. It is a lot easier to learn when people around you speak it all the time. I've started to sing Welsh folk songs so that is making it easier.

Fred Rees doesn't seem to have a very good reputation looking elsewhere on this Forum. A lot of people seem to travel down to Swansea where there is a very good dealer.

That's sad about the 2cv. The one we've got now, Gigi, is the second one we've had. She arrived in St Davids in pristine condition having spent most of her life garaged and cosseted, but five years exposed to the salty air is taking its toll so I guess grp replacement bits will be on order soon. Got to keep her running - HWMBO likes to describe her as the support vehicle for the motorbike!

Fred Rees don't rate very high, do they. They quoted me £605 to fit the Westfalia detachable towbar compared to BankFarm Trailers (Narberth) at £445. A friend who has an Octavia won't use FR for servicing any more so thanks for the tip about the Swansea dealership.

Freshacre (George) on here bought his Yeti from Swansea and has been back and been very pleased with them, and I am thinking of taking mine there for it's next service, as I'm not too happy with mine at the moment, plus we have friends down there so we can do some socialising at the same time.

Yep!

I can confirm that not only did I buy the Yeti from a very non-pushy salesman who "prefers 5% of something to 100% of nothing" when doing a deal, and have been back to enquire about my next Yeti next year, but I have also had my car serviced twice by Sinclair Skoda in Swansea, AND bought four replacement new Dunlop tyres from them as they were the most competitive quote of all the quotes.

They are also the "Skoda Retailer of the Year" to boot!

I have found their customer service to be a very positive experience, with helpful people left right and centre. They kept in touch with me by text and by phone at all stages of my dealings, and have responded promptly to any questions I asked. I think one of their strengths when compared with another Welsh dealer near Pontypridd is that they are a solus Skoda dealer and not a multiple choice merchant.

Each time my car has been in their hands it has been returned fully valeted - and as one or two on here (Llani and TP and Aerofurb ) will confirm, I tend to live in my Yeti and it is usually filthy inside and out!!

In summary - very business-like, yet friendly and welcoming, and most importantly, great value for money.

Thanks for the recommendation, George. I've bookmarked their homepage so I don't forget about them.

I wish my Skoda dealer were that accommodating.

I asked them on three separate occasions for a quote on four Dunlop’s (I think my Scout rides on the same tyres as the Yeti - 225/50 R17 94W, Dunlop SP Sport 01) with no response.

Gave up and bought them online for £518 inc. VAT and delivery.

I was enquiring about that car - nearly bought it but was just a wee bit much for my funds. Ended up buying a Steel Grey SE on Tuesday

Hi janesdsg

Got my Yeti from Autofinders in Chesterfield in March (steel grey 2.0 Ellegance).

Autofinders were problem free and I am still delighted with the car. However, despite phone calls and e-mails I still have not received my registration documents - 4 months later. Autofinders assure me it is the DVLA who is at fault but I am beginning to wonder if there is some other "reason" behind the delay.

Be interested to hear how you get on.

Enjoy your car.

This is why I preferred Drivethedeal. I got my V5C about 3 weeks after getting my car.

Purchased my 170 Elegance online from "Carquake". It was delivered free of charge to my door on a transporter with 5 miles on the clock. Received the V5C 3 weeks later. I believe some online dealers hold on to the V5C for 3 months because they have sold the vehicle as a registered "demo" model to get extra discount.

Hi Malc

Had a call from Autofinders on Saturday morning to say that they were sending the reg documents off to the DVLA to have the address changed from their office to my home address. Is that the stage you're at with them?

Hi Jane

I've had exactly the same story with a few additions - on taking delivery, Autofinders told me that the DVLA would take 6 weeks to porocess the Document. When the 6 weeks expired they told me that the DVLA were taking 12 weeks because of the backlog. After 12 weeks they told me that they had the V5 from the DVLA but it had to be sent back because there was a spelling mistake on it.

It is a pity that Autofinders aren't more explicit about any 'odd' procedures they are using to keep prices down - at least we could choose to go along with it or not.

More importantly don't let any of this spoil your enjoyment of the new car!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Do you mind me asking when you ordered? I have a 170 Elegance on order with Autofinders which I ordered on March 15th and I am still waiting for a build week.

Cheers

Denis
