Cracked SeatSport FMIC and stuff.

Featured Replies

Ok, so there I was feeling pretty laggy, a little low on power, music up, just assumed it was a slow day. A few days went past until I herd hissing under boost. Sounded like SCHHHHH... Anyway checked hoses, nothing. Days later my mechanic pointed out it was the intercooler has a crack around an inch and a half horizontally along a vein. Ok, it's cool. Obviously it's under warranty. Just a quick call to Dave at SERE Motors in Ireland and we'll have it sorted. It's obviously not a stone hit it, it looks more like badly made and ripped apart where it's under tension. Dave asked what car it was on and being the honest guy I am I said Fabia. At this point he told me there is no longer warranty on this item because or the vehicle it's on. I'm getting it welded up on Saturday. Has anybody else had this experience or a welded cooler along a vein? I'm bothered that my future 2 bar may kill it. I'll post up a picky later when I get home.

It feels good to be back!

You aren't having the best of luck at the moment are you?

why does the vehicle its on affect the warranty ? :S

why does the vehicle its on affect the warranty ? :S

No idea. I suppose there's the argument of not being used for its intended purpose? (I guess there's a vague clause like that in there somewhere, although I've never seen any of the OEM parts I've ordered actually come with the warranty text!) However, if it's obviously a manufacturing fault, then it's their problem, anyway (Sales of Goods Act - not sufficiently durable / not of satisfactory quality).

Cause it's for a seat.. And runs more boost on my car than the car it's from. I should have said it's off a standard seat but it's too late for that one.

i see i see that makes sense, guess it pays to be honest......not!

Note to self: When seat coler blows up, and I go for a warranrty claim, pretend I drive a Seat!

Unlucky, Ross, thought about the Forge bar and plate varaint of it?

got a link to the forge version? the only model I can see on their site is the standard one, with the u-bend pipe and outlets at either end, can't see one similar to the SS model.

cheers!

Jake

Any chance of the jumps being the cause? Lol

Well, it only took nearly seven hours...

Nice to see you last night Ross.

I don't know if this link is any use to you but I used

this place to repair a damaged rad on one of my first cars

and they did a good job of that.

I know it's not quite in your neck of the woods but that's all they do

there so they may be able to offer some advice at least.

Ive had two SS intercoolers, both have 'blown' with the boost of my hybrid. Tom. 's 5 door Ibiza was the same.

**** poor for anything over a remap guys.

Glad I've got the forge hahahahahaha

Mine is fine and running more boost than Ross' and has been fitted for longer. Until it goes then it's a great cooler IMO.

Poor show from Seers. It uses the original mounting points (brackets included) and fits as if it was OEM. It uses Forge hoses which also are designed for the Ibiza. What difference does it make?

Glad I've got the forge hahahahahaha

Me too

Nice to see you too, Thanks for the link pall. I've got somebody local who only deal with fabrication and especially alloy (lorry diesel tanks) gonna patch it up for me hopefuly. I shall see how it lasts like that and if it doesnt last im tempted to do something like

is the flame under the car normal? lol

does anyone know if that ss style intercooler kit will fit the fab?

cheers

Contacted forge and this is the response that I got,

Hello Jordan

This may fit but due to us not having one in and testing it I cannot be 100% sure.

The benefits over the stock  seat sport intercooler is ours is fully seam welded,

Also the pipe run has no restrictions like the oem one.

So still not completely sure it will fit, I contacted them again to see if they could seek some more info so awaiting their response,

As luke, i`m running a reasonable amount of power thru it, no issues at the moment. I suspect its just bad luck tbh

Matt

Certainly an amount of bad luck involved, but you are using something that is built to a cost. The Forge stuff is expensive for a reason - built to be as good as possible. Glad I am also running the Forge cooler tbh.

The Forge FMIC is cheaper though...?

Mine was 550 including pipework around 2 years ago

That's my point, I paid more than that for the SS FMIC and Forge pipework. It's certainly not much cheaper if it is at all!
