Cracked SeatSport FMIC and stuff.

The ss ic is seen as the cheaper alternative if you ask me.

It's seen as it, but it isn't really. There's no price difference anymore. Everything is "built to a price" be it oem or after Market. If "JOM" made some coilovers for a M3, because they are aftermarket does that make them better? (no offence to JOM owners)

The forge kit is 680 ATM on their website. I'd prefer ss as it's much bigger and doesn't have the long return piping, Jom rules!

Well it depends on what deal you managed to get I guess. In my view the Forge cooler was more expensive all in based on RRP prices. I managed to get mine brand new for £500, but that was through another member.

I agree everything is built to an overall cost, but I'm yet to see anyone mention an issue with their Forge cooler unless I have missed something? :) Also you only need to look at the quality of the welds to know you are getting a decent product at the end of the day.

Forge 1 - Ss 0

This is what ive always said with the questions over forge vs SS, the SS maybe bigger but its an oem core so made out of weaker material then the forge so could be prone to cracking as ros has found out along with T.spark + others.

Affordable intercooler kits that require the minimum of fettling.

Forge IC for the Fabia VRS, Forge IC for the Ibiza, Forge SEAT Sport style for the Ibiza.

I assume the detail differences to fit the car arise from the front end styling of the cars.

Looking at their prices, their fully welded SS style intercooler kit is the cheaper option!

I think to fit a Xenon equiped Fabia with headlamp washers though, you'd need the Fabia specific pipe kit.

Does anyone knownif the ss style cooler kit will fit the fabia ok?

Thanks

Pretty sure there was issues with some early ones. Bad batch maybe. But until many seat sports go pop I don't think that the problem is much more than that with them tbh. It'd be intreating to test forge vs seat sport vs eBay ****e and see what the difference in strength was.

How do you KNOW that? It's all speculation until it's tested. I'll be cursing mine if it goes pop lol, but tbh ross' sounds like a defect from new, not a problem with coping with power.

Matt

The core in both coolers is the same, I've spoke to forge about it, only difference is the forge is seem welded which is obviously slightly stronger

Hopefuly fixed it now, had it welded up along the vein then pressure tested to find a simular crack on the top of the vein (have to bend the bendy bits to f**k to get to. That then got JB weld'd because the welder could not get to it and its not leaking so far. The person who carried out the work, works on lorry's and has done it many times before on lorry's that boost to 3.4bar :o so mine should be just fine. He's going to get me a price for a new uprated core too and quote to chop off each end of the fmic and put the new core in. If it's not stupid money I may do it. Thanks for all your helpful suggestions. Another problem solved. Now ive got to try and get to the bottom of my stupid dash :dull:

Happy days, the uprated core sounds interesting

Ooo - there was me thinking cracks would be hard to see!

what a stupid question you can see that they are made from similar material to the standard one and they crack....

Indeed, you can see from that picture the **** quality metal that is used

I think people have got into the wrong thinking that just because the SS is bigger, means it must be better. IMO that's simply not the case.

So your assuming. As iv said, early forge ones have been known to crack so that proves nothing. When there is an epidemic of Ss cracking then I'll eat my words. But given the amount there are, I'll put my bets on a iffy batch for now.

quite a bit of fin damage... something must have hit it surely?

Now yu say that, it could be fur or feathers in there. Alternatively, maybe lint from cleaning it up to find the crack(s).

I caused it on purpose cleaning it. It's cracked again, pics to follow of the shape of the FMIC, it's bowed out from the middle. I'm getting a custom core put inside the SS brackets. So it'll be a SS cooler with thicker higher quality and much more efficient core.
