Insurance Renewal

Featured Replies

Well it was time to renew my insurance, with all the various increase's I was pretty worried.

Before - £1270 for 10 months, one off payment, standard car, no drivers with points etc.

My initial renewal was quoted as £802.71 for another 10 months same as before. Thats for 19 year old with 2 years ncb and an IAM liscence.

Adding my dad with an SP50, 3 points increased it to £836.71.

Add Exterior & Interior changes and Lowered upto 5cm it went up to £844.61.

Add uprated brakes and it went up to £865.81

Then to pay it on a monthly basis it went to £1023.26, so £102 per month.

Should mention its with Admiral on thier 10 month bonus accelerator policy, so I pay for 10 months and get a years no claims.

Turns out they allow up to 6 modifications, unfortunately they couldn't quote me if I added "non-standard exhaust" and "suspension other" to the policy however im not too fussed about it.

Thought this information could be helpful to other young drivers come renewal time

Have you tried the site sponsors?

I had a load of problems trying to convince insurance companies that I had 5 years NCB when i'd had my licence for 4.5 years as I'd done one of those 6 month accelerator jobbies.

10 months is more expensive in the long run than 12 months!

I was looking at one of these - the extra 2 months of license length (while you've had it less than 3 years, which at 19 will be you) is a greater discount than the NCB.

Does that make sense? While you're getting the NCB sooner, because you've had your license less time than you would if you'd waited 12 months, means overall it's not cheaper. If you fiddle round with quotes you should see what I mean.

Do you have a mum, aunt, g/f with a clean license you can add? Makes mine cheaper.

Another thing, is miles a year driven. Too high, it goes up - too low, they put it up (assuming they'll say you're unfamiliar with it). If you find a middle ground then a few ££ can be saved that way too.

I hate this postcode lottery, I'm with Admiral and I'm paying £150 p/m on my Fabia PD100 with mods declared emoticon-0149-no.gif

I'm 5/6 years younger than you and paying several hundred pounds less on an RX-8! Never realised postcodes made so much difference!

Ouch!!! Even my vRS with mods declared after an at fault accident is no where near that much

If im honest I dont grudge the cost, theres so many people I know paying a lot more than me for the likes of 1.2 corsa so I cant complain.

I did spent a long time looking about for different quotes and I set a price that I'd be happy with which I got.

It deffinately does pay to search about though.

That price for a 19 year old is pretty fair to be honest.

That is very helpful, got my renewal in September. Quite worried tbh.

How much are you paying atm if I may ask?

Considering I'm the same age and same details etc I'm 1200 in northern ireland so yeh that's pretty good

I think going for the 10 months although more expensive in the long run is still the best option for younger drivers, I'd say my case is proof of that, if i'd stuck to the same policy as last years my insurance would be down £470 and considering the national avergae is up in general and even more for under 21's i'd say thats pretty good

Adrian flux are good with mods

I was going to try them though i've just been told by my parents they are going to look into a multi-car policy with admiral soon which might bring mine down more

How can you have more ncb than you've had your licence for?

Quite easily depending on the insurer. Iv been driving 4 years but have 5 years no claims due to my motorbike insurer letting me carry my years no claims over to a car if I stayed with them! Bonus!
