So the tyre pressure monitor does work....

Featured Replies

Travelling along the dual carriageway towards sunny Bournemouth doing 70ish when suddenly the tyre pressure monitor comes on and I get a flashing sign on the maxidot saying "Check Tyres". My mind immediately races and I'm thinking it could be something bad like a quick puncture or a rip in the tyre. Unfortunately, this dual carriageway had no where to pull over except a grass verge. Puling on to that quickly from roughly 80mph was an interesting experience!

Checked the tyres but couldn't see any problems. Thought it might have been a slow puncture but from the way the system works, it wouldn't really pick that up. Anyway, parked it up on the seafront, tyres were fine.

Got home, whipped out the tyre pressure kit and my left rear was down from 2.4 bar to 2.2 bar and all the rest were fine. As it uses the other tyres rolling circumference as a comparison check, I'm presuming this is what set it off?

Nice to know it works though. Hell of a shock at speed though :D

Dont this its that sensitive, if its picked up on .2 of a bar would be worth having as I had a blow out on the A14 couple of weeks ago emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Once you have adjusted your pressures don't forget to reset the TPM by holding the push button, with the Ignition on, down until it " Bings".

My Passat had TPM and on two occasions it alerted me to a slow puncture. Same situation you describe about 0.2 bar.

Had to really hunt around the wheel but both times found a screw embedded deep in. Fortunately both times in the repair zone.

Great gadget and considering all cars with ABS must have the functionality I am surprised it is not mandated.

Would be worth checking your tyre again in the morning.

This a standard part with the vRS? or is it an optional extra?

And what does the SET button beside the handbrake do?

Resets the TPM emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I didn't know there was a reset button! Every day is a school day with this car.

Out of interest, what pressures are people running their vRSes at? There's two suggested sets inside the fuel cap door - the lower of the two sets (from memory) appears to show two / three people and some luggage (2.5 front / 2.4 rear). As 99% of the time the car is only carrying 12 stone me I was thinking of knocking a bit off.

That is still 3 psi , the faster you go the more sensative it is, it counts the revolutions of you wheels on each axel if one side spins faster it will go off , it works off your Abs . A blowout is instant, so you will emediately slow, also I don`t think you need a light and a bong to tell you you have a total loss of air in your tyre, the unprocessed sewage in your trousers will tell you that! :giggle:

I had A warning to check mine Just now

Can't really check mine in the dark though :(

it'll pick up 0.2 bar easy, I adjusted my pressures, after first pickomg the car up, and set the moniter off!

Never worked in my Greenline II, I tested it by reducing one tyre by nearly a bar and nothing.

Not bothered on the Elegance, just check the tyres regularly.
