Fabia's Economy

Hi guys, had my vRS for a few days now and ive noticed on the daily drive to work that the MPG is quite low...

I've worked the journey out that it is a combined figure journey and according to the paper the vRS does 45.6 MPG Combined

Im not seeing anywhere near that, im getting around 30's :S and when i put my footdown high teens low 20's

Whys is this ?

standard mpg :'(

Around town they aren't going to get much above 30 mpg. On a run you'll get 40 + mpg. I managed to get a calculated 48 mpg for last weeks trip to cornwall and 38 mpg today when I filled up for the return journey.

It all depends how many miles you've done too.

How many miles and what roads do you drive to work?

Work is a 25 mile round trip, most of the roads are 60 zones and a mile and abit squirt on motorway...

Deffo classed as combined.

On the way back from the dealer i got 43 MPG sitting at 70 all the way back and that was a 300mile trip

300 miles to collect the car? Surely you could have found one more locally?

How many miles you done now?

You should be getting better than 30 odd though. I generally take it easy for a bit then tend to open it up once fully warm (oil) and when bored

local dealer was pretty **** so rang up the UK's biggest skoda dealer and got a cracking deal but it was up north,

I think its on about 400 ish

the more the car is used will it setting in and calm down ?

Should do - check out fuelly.com and look at the other vRS's for comparison. Mine is on it, you can check out each tankful to see mpg etc.

If you get stuck in traffic it drinks a bit more...

I can get low 40's easily, got 6K on the clock

That's pretty much exactly what my dealer told me, if you use the power a bit. So sounds about right.

It was one of the things that put me off as I do 500 miles a week and hate spending half my life in petrol stations.

Will get a bit better once it's done a few miles though.

I thought tthe same when i first bought mine, butthe more miles i do the better mpg it gets.

Many guys on here have said that they have touched into the 50mpg+ region, i remember reading that and thinking ******f, not happening as i couldnt better 45mpg initially. 4800 miles on driving between medway and chilwell i averaged 51mpg with myself, the wife, my daughter, the dog and baggage for a weekend. Doing the same journey over 1000 miles ago with just myself in the car i managed 47mpg which i was over the moon with so you can imagine my missus face when i woke her after breaking into the 50s. She thinks im sad :giggle: so apologies to all guys i called a'liar :D

Fwiw i went on a track day last friday. I tripped my meter for the 42 mile return journey to rockingham AND 135miles on track and that was round 21mpg.

My morning commutes when i drive for about 9 mile i heavy stop go traffic is now at about 38mpg. Previously when very new, just like you i struggled with getting good figures.

Oh and mines stage 2 mapped, maybe you should do yours to.....i noticed around a 5mpg increase in economy after mapping, although that could be linked into the engine being run in as well

I dont get much, but then again I love turbo

See my signature for Fuelly. Mine started in the high 20's and now with nearly 2,500 on the clock i am at 33, although 50% of my driving is very local, dropping kids off etc. If I can get it to an average of about 35 ill be pleased. They do loosen up with age as well.

Over 3 fill ups mines around 28mpg on Fuelly

Seems low going to the dealers for other work so will get it checked.

There is loads of black spots over the back of the car and the exhaust is blacker than a black thing.

Running rich?

They all run a bit rich apparently?

Mine is 4 weeks old, with 1k on the clock.

Best 47.2, easily get 42-44, give it a bit stick 35-37.

Mine's white and i get loads of black sooty stuff on the back :(

Im currently getting 32mpg out of mine with 1600 miles on the clock thats from town driving though so quite a lot of stop start and queing in traffic :(

My current average is 36mpg over 1400miles brim to brim each tank....on a couple of 100mile runs, I've hit 44mpg.

I wish !!! Must change me lead boots to feather ones !!!

Day to day I get an average of 36 - 38 mpg.

On a recent run down to Cornwall (lots of cruise control and never out of 'D') I saw 52 mpg on the average display.

I did have one tank of fuel where I averaged 19 mpg, but that was experimenting with spirited driving using nothing but the paddles.

averaging around mid 30s although can easily get mid 40s on a longer run and get around 70MPG on my route to work :)

to get a more MPG out of it you need to drive it like theirs an egg under the accelerator.

I get 600 miles on a tank full:) ! And it's sounds like a V10 it's the 1.4tdi :)

Well, filled mine up this morning, just under 40 litres after 427 miles on the last tank full which makes 48 mpg. Drive gently to and from work (80 mile round trip) and have fun at the weekend.:giggle:

Just had the nasty warning though that my first service is now due (well in 1000 miles).

That seems very good for a vrs well done :)

That's really good. If I get figures like that I'll be more than happy. My Mk1 vRS can do about 440 miles on a run with 4 passengers and a full boot.

averaging around mid 30s although can easily get mid 40s on a longer run and get around 70MPG on my route to work :)

I take it that it's downhill to work :)...what do you get on the return journey?
