Fabia vRS reprieved?

Featured Replies

Thanks to ChrisH for directing me to this forum.

In his professional capacity Chris has been very patient and supportive in our dilemma of which of our cars should be made redundant.

Should it be the 110 bhp L&K Octavia TDi Estate (five forward gears) that my wife loves or the 130 bhp Fabia vRS (six forward gears) that I love?

Chris explained that my earlier model vRS has a higher final gear than current models. For me that higher gear is almost an overdrive and gorgeous for easy motorway driving.

The cars are both in the prime of their youth.

With my partner no longer travelling by car to her office our mileage is small and it seems extravagent to have two vehicles and we were looking at a replacement Skoda to please both of us - maybe a 140bhp Octavia Turbo Diesel.

Right now, with initial depreciation losses out of the way, we are wondering if we will suffer less from future depreciation losses if we keep both cars and put up with a few hundred pounds insurance and road tax and each enjoy the car we prefer.

Now who's that obstructing the road in front of me :snail:

:)

Welcome to Briskoda. I would keep both if I were in your situation! :)

No question...... keep both that way you have the best of both worlds

Keep both - do you really want to face up to another stack of depreciation?

If mileage is to be small shop for insurance that takes account of low mileage and does not provide cover for travel to work and/or business use if those are not required. A car each provides independence. SWMBO and I are both retired but we each have car for the for the sake of that independence, covering about 18k a year between us.

On the other hand, don't forget you will have two lots of service, MOT and ongoing depreciation costs as well.

For an objective appraisal why not set down the projected running costs of your two current cars on one side of a balance sheet and the cost of financing/depreciating/running the new one on the other side?

Best of luck. Let us know what you decide.

Dump both and get the new octavia.
