VRS feels like it wont rev out / slow in first.

Featured Replies

My VRS feels like it wont rev out, its a stock car except for PD160 intake, but it feels like first gear could do with being taller, second and up feels fine and the turbo seems to work well.

I had a ride in a mates "stock" car and first was loads better revved out a chunk more, there is a good chance his has been mapped but he was pretty sure it was standard.

Any info would be advice on performance, RPM in gears would be great.

When was your air filter last changed?

Just this afternoon.

Was age is each vehicle? Could be the different gearboxes your experiencing altho I believe they are the same apart from 6th

a normal unmodified fabia vrs will not do much after 4k rpm, turbo simply runs out of puff

The car's a 54 reg, it's quick enough but after a go in a 56 car that revved right round im left thinking??

If his was still pulling at 4k then it's probably been mapped.

Has it started doing this recently? or always?

How've you been driving recently?... Mine wouldn't rev to eagerly if it'd been doing the daily commute with out a blast for too long,... A few "excited" miles and it'd come back to life.. don't forget they adapt to how they're driven.

I've not been doing the daily in mine for a few months, it's only been coming out for social stuff and I've been less concerned about fuel preservation because of it and it feels much happier these days...

Also, what fuel do you use? The cheap stuff combined with a lack of excited driving would leave the injectors a bit grubby.. could try a tank of Ultimate / Vpower with a shot of millers + some high revving runs. Always sorted mine out.

What's the millage? Could it be time to have all the intake gubbins taken off and cleaned out?

+1 On what Rob has said as well.

After the Cumbria trip and 800 miles of absolutely ragging the car to within an inch of its life, it's running much sweeter than it ever has done.

I didn't know they adapt to how they're driven, how long well it take for it to learn to enjoy a some spirited driving more? its at 87k what do you mean by intake gubbin's intercooler pipes ect?

Yeah.. due to the EGR re circulating exhaust gas into the intake, and the head breathing oil vapor back round as well, a kind of sticky tar goop forms all around the intake system.. In bad cases the bottom of the intercooler with actually start collecting oil.

I had my intake manifold, EGR valve, intercooler and all the pipes that link them together cleaned out and it defiantly improved the engine breathing as well as the intercoolers performance. The car had done about 69k at the time.

I also had the EGR valve set to the lowest amount of recirc to slow down the build up of gunk... it's by no means as effective as an EGR delete and a catch can, but it certainly seemed to help tick over of the bat.

Shouldn't take too many miles to re accustom the car to more aggressive acceleration... If ya just go for a spirited blast you'll be able to tell as it adjusts because it'll start to feel much more eager. Mine used to feel half asleep after a long relaxed motor way trip.. a few trips round the block and a couple of A roads used to sort it out though.

my EGR after about 100k. Pretty sooty.

Ok, can you clean the EGR? I'll probably try and clean the intercooler soon too. I chucked some redx in and took her on a date to redline's-ville and im pretty sure she rev's a little better, Still not a snarling beast like the black one a had a go in, is there any truth in the rumor that the black ones are faster than the red ones?

Are you sure the black one was standard? Because it sounds like a mapped one to me ybh

TBH the lad has a 170 Leon and swears the Fab is faster but wont have it its been mapped. (He's wrong) promised myself i wouldn't mess with it but i may have to go back on that one :D

Just this afternoon.

I'd suggest checking to see if the filter, air box cover or maf connections are all fitted back tightly/correctly.

Simple mis-fitted cover can cause those sorts of probs, as can the maf connector

Ace will take a look first thing in the morning, thanks for the input.

Would it be worth putting it on a fault code reader?

Had a look this morning and the hose that go's from the airbox to the box on the drivers side was split, i trimmed and re-fitted but it's no better, what it the rubber pipe for ?

Dunno which pipe u mean, could you post up some pics.

Any pipe that is to do with the air intake (maf side to engine) is vital for smooth running. Any splits, leaks on that side will cause poor running.

however not sure what pipe you are referring to at the moment, so pls post up some pics

Sorry, my digi cam wont work > LINK < In the link pic you can see a small rubber hose that connects to the airbox just behind the MAF, the hose connects to a thinner length that runs down the bulkhead to that box that behind coolant bottle with the other pipes coming from it.
