Bye bye WRX hello vRS!

Featured Replies

After taking a Fabia vRS for a test drive last week I've gone and bought one! Popped in the local dealers yesterday to see what was on offer and they had a brand new unregistered Silver Metalic in stock, well it would be rude not to.

Will be collecting on Wednesday.

Although I will be sad to see the 02' WRX Impreza go I won't miss

Insurance premiums (Make them up as they go along)

Optimax (No more christmas cards from Shell)

Stupid servicing costs (

Yeah, but it makes sense. :(

You'd be surprised to know how many precede you as well. :)

Although a lot seem to go for the 1.8T octy vRS. :)

SHOCKED!

Just phoned up to change the insurance over with only three months to run.

Been refunded

Yeah, but your scoob would have it in the twisties

I traded i my WRX for a VRs pick it up on Saturday. Just wondered what you were offered for yours? I was offered a straight swap which I took (getting car jacked pretty much helped me decide to go for it despite losing 5K in 18 months!) Here is to cheap motoring but without losing the smile!

I got

I've got a WRX and Swmbo has the Fabia VRS.

I have to say I agree with you Matt, all the things you say are what i'm feeling at the moment.

I love the scooby, I love the way it looks and the way people look when you go past them. I love the sound of the engine and the handling but I keep asking myself, when I can have so much fun in the Fabia why spend so much keeping the scooby on the road.

As for the servicing, I'm just at 30k now, was quoted

Without posting exact figures if I weigh up my trade in value and the price I paid for the Fabia I got about

You are right, there are quite a few on here who have made the switch

Trading in a 4 wheel drive rally breed petrol car for a 2 wheel drive 130ps oil burner......umm....it makes financial sense, thats all tho (in my opinion)

I think it's all about everyday useable performance and how often you'd be getting maximum satisfaction from the Impreza's obvious talents. Fair enough if your daily drive includes fast sweeping A-roads and such, the Scooby would be the choice there. But with the vRS you do have the benefit of the mid-range grunt, which to me more satisfying and useable day-to-day. And this is coupled to reduced running costs in every area against the Subaru.

I'm also seeing more and more 'dubious' people driving around in them. I suppose this is inevitable with their rally-bred reputation. Plus as they get older, the *purchase* cost is within reach of more people....

I've got a Furby vRS test drive booked for saturday and assuming I like it, the WRX is going. My daily commute (75% of all my driving) is motorway. In fact, once Jabba'd I reckon that 95% of the time the vRS will be just as fast/satisfying as the Scooby point-to-point.

Agree I chopped in my Scooby for an Octy vRS, best move I ever made, and even unchipped the low down torque of the 1.8t on twisty back roads (3rd gear if ur lucky ;-) ) is a match for the scoob... couple that with v.low servicing/fuel/insurance costs and its a pleasure to drive... even looking for traction with FWD is an enjoyable challenge :D

So you've not driven a remapped vRS then? ;)

I would have though the Octy would be a more natural match for the WRX. Standard it seemed pretty fast. The noise the WRX makes is definitely excellent, very nice car for the rest. I have never owned one but I've driven one round a twisty, bouncy bend where my car would just not be able to hold the road at speed. The WRX screamed round it 70ish mph. Very expensive to run & tyres cost a fortune :(

The Furby makes a lot of sense if it's mainly you driving it on the motorway, as it's cheaper still, pretty economical, and well-built. The Octy has more toys and will probably more comfortable but the WRX had pretty hard suspension on it anyway..

Dunno if I am gonna get mine remapped or not, still debating whether it's worth doing or not. Warranty/insurance cost are currently pretty important to me.

But as you're used to high running cost & insurance, you could get it done straight away (post-run-in) and get the right insurance to start with :)

When I was looking for an estate I test drove the classic shape and "bug-eye" scoobies, I was genuinely disappointed with the performance and as I could barely afford standard insurance the thought of modifying it was a no-go.

While venting my frustration on Scoobynet, some kind person pointed me towards Briskoda - I've never looked back since :D

I went for the Elegance in the end because of the standard toys and added "stealth" factor. Now, 3 months after it's trip to Jabba I still love it.

Octavia service cost over 3000 miles -

Good choice.Another scooby convert.Good taste you people have

Just love the sound of scooby's though.Up there with TVR and V8's in the"put your window down to listen to them" category.

Hope you enjoy the sturdy furby :D

Despite me not exactly having a Scoob i am doing a similar transition. Off to purchase a fabia on Saturday, and sell my modified Volvo T5. Like the scoob though, i have it serviced every 5k which as an anual cost breaks down to around

I went from a 190bhp VR6, to a tweaked fab vRS only last week.

The Fabia performs better off the line, through the gears, and round the corners. I get better fuel consumption when booting the fab, than what I did nursing the VR - on the motorway! :D

I'm averaging between 34-50 mpg in the fab. The VR rarely saw 30. Usually more like 20.

Oh one other thing, the fab costs the same to insure fully comp, as what the VR cost third party. ;)

The fuel savings alone, pay for the car!

So yeah I agree, a no brainer really.

Have you driven a turbo'd scoob? :P

Nah seriously tho, the car keeps traction really well for a 2wd.

Yeah, but your scoob would have it in the twisties

:rofl: Where have I seen that phrase before?:rofl:

...and switched back :D:D
