I couldn't put my finger on it but you are absolutely right, in my eyes anyway.

I'd rather say that stretched Defender looks more like a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 5 door than a Hummer. A Hummer's proportions are that of a far shorter device. The Unlimited has a very long wheelbase with still minimal overhangs front and rear.

Ok, and a Jeep Unlimited.....Not seen one before.

Just been down to the local farm for some eggs and farmer has just got a nearly new Defender LWB and was telling me Land Rover have been told by our European bosses thar the current Defender is unsafe as too strong in the back end if you run into it in a small car. They have been ordered to look at a safer design.

Probably too strong all round with the 'Ladder Chassis' design.

Plus have they moved the fuel tank? I remember the driver and front passenger would sit on a 10 gallon tank each; eek!

AH! Someone did a proper job! I think it is too long though. Prefer the more Yeti-esque proportions of the one I did above.

Those mockups are pretty good.

I'm actually warming to the whole concept ;) maybe it will be out by the time I want to replace my Yeti. :wonder:

Grrr...... if a car's petrol tank is positioned in the rear bumper and you are sitting on the bonnet right at the front of the car you will still be blown to bits if it should ever explode... So to sit ON the tank makes near no difference at all (in such an extreme situation as it exploding)! The Honda Jazz and Civic both have the fuel tanks under the front seats to free up space under the rear seats for their "magic seat" mechanism. A brilliant idea in my book to make use of what is normaly wasted space.

And remember that diesel is not flamable. So you will be safe sitting near a diesel tank anyway! :giggle:

Just need to fit your ejector buttons Johann for a quick escape!!! :D

Yes it is. Just not as volatile as petrol. Through a match in diesel & it'll go out - same with most kerosene based aviation fuel. But it will light - believe me! ;)

Cars exploding in accidents are very rare I would think (expecially diesel ones!)... they mostly do that on TV.

I've seen videos of people holding a lighter next to diesel fuel and it did not ignite. But I take your point that it will just take longer to ignite. As we know it takes very high pressure in a diesel engine to ignite it WITHOUT the need of a spark! :giggle:

Bet you would`nt put your foot in a bucket of diesel and throw a match in it? :D

We should try that... since actually you certainly can do that and nothing will happen I promise you. Just look up some videos of matches and diesel on YouTube...

No problem at all. Naked of course. :D Clothes soaked in diesel will ignite no bother.

Great mock ups. I wonder who'll be the first to mistakenly wave at a Defender.

Gerry McGovern has clearly been influenced by the Yeti design - that window setup is Yeti pure and simple. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

As a great looker the Yeti is I'm fairly sure LR haven't taken design cues from it :giggle:

'The car has been confirmed for launch in 2015'

thing is by 2015 the yeti would have had a face lift and that look will be outdated :)

A few more versions have now cropped up. These four by Kahn.

Must say that bonnet mounted spare looks like a very narrow 14" wheel for a car with wide 22" ones!!!

Am I sad to look at the wheels and think how expensive they will be to replace? That is my first thought with this car.

Concept cars always have HUGE wheels as they look best (supposedly). But then get toned down for the production version. Look at what the Range Rover Sport concept looked like (here) vs the real deal (here). So this Defender will get normal sized tyres by the time it goes into production.

If/when they put normal tyres on here it will then look so close to a Yeti that Skoda may be able to sue them. If they were silhouetted you would be hard pushed to tell them apart. Only the big front bumper separates the two cars and you can't notice that from the side.

Hmmmmmm........back door looks a tad different. :wonder: Now if that was on a Yeti wouldn't everyone be happy with the exra boot space. :D

Oh the boot space will be much better for sure but rearward vision with the spare wheel on the door? It looks nonexistent! Hence the see-through C-pillars. :giggle:
