And they've done a sketch of a yellow soft top too.

Now where have I seen that before??

Oh yeah, the yeti soft top concept :dull:

Oh the boot space will be much better for sure but rearward vision with the spare wheel on the door? It looks nonexistent! Hence the see-through C-pillars. :giggle:

...

Now THAT would save some boot space on a Yeti - side opening door and spare on the back anyone? :thumbup:B)

Hands up those wanting a side opening rear door in the current breeze outside?

My unscientific thoughts are that those types of rear doors need a big arc in order to open which would make them tricky in car parks with vehicles, or brick walls, behind you. Would that be correct?

The Toyota Rav-4 has one and it is a rediculous contraption, with you only being able to open it in supermarket car parks. Park parallel in a street and you can only open it an inch or so. Add a spare wheel and you are scuppered completely. No thanks. I prefer my smaller boot and a top hinged hatch!

I've just spent 7 years with a Freelander with a side opening door...............no thanks!! Funny how LR now equip the FL2 with a top hinged one!!

I liked the classic RR one. Top & Bottom Hinged. I also like my old 5 series touring where the glass opened as well as the whole tailgate. Then there is the Superb Twindoor......

Land Rover have gone and added a few more bits to their concept and painted it a new colour for the LA show. Looks great I think!

Plenty more pics here.

This concept is very much like yeti.

I mean the shape and line of the windows.

Land rover wants to steal something from yeti or eventually yeti can steal something from Land Rover.

In conclusion I love harder my yeti... ;)

So the yeti and every other little 4x4/softroader out there didn't steal their looks from the landrovers and jeeps?

FWIW, the front grill of the dc100 in pale blue, looks very freelander to me.

What do the farmers think? I can't help but think this looks too much like a 'lifestyle' vehicle than an agricultural tool and a lot of the appeal of the Defender was that it was so utilitarian.

The Defender is very labour intensive to build, is very expensive, probably won't get 1 star in an NCAP test and they sell about 4000 a year in Europe. So I think as a business I'd say sorry to the farmers and move on. By changing the Defender to be more of a "lifestyle" vehicle LR will sell anything from 20,000 a year and up. Some might be bare bones ones to more or less replicate what a Defender is (and appease some farmers), but I can guarantee you the bulk will have carpets and climatronic and leather seats bringing in a huge profit for LR. Far more of a profit than the Defender brings them now for sure. As a business that is the only way to survive - making money. So sorry farmers but time to move on.

LR have actually said that they will be producing a basic, stripped-out version, suitable for "agricultural" use, but will also produce more "life style" types, because, as Johann says, that is where the money is.

Think I'll try and pick up a series II then :(

Fair points, I'd assumed it sold better than that to agriculture. In that case I can see the point of it being more lifestyle orientated but I don't see where it would fit between the Freelander, Disco, Evoque and RR. Not that I'm going to buy one. If I needed a big 4x4 I'd probably get a Landcruiser.

Revised concept certainly has a more practical wheel/tyre combination; it looks much more practical.

There's an editorial article in the latest EVO about the LR concept analysing the rationale behind the design and what LR should be doing; interesting reading.

Landrovers DC 100 Shown at the Delhi motor show, which really is shaping up to look like a Skoda Yeti on steroids?

I must admit to liking it, maybe because of the 'Yeti' styling.

They keep painting the same concept cars over and over again for every show! So it looks as if they have tons of cars when in fact they only have the two! Bless.

The biggest criticism of these thus far from the (Defender, néé 90) boys was that it had these awful low profile tyres on......... like in DOH guys if you are thick enough to think those are what they will be sold with then.......... well let me not finish that. Anyway, as you can see they have now put "normal" alloys with fairly normal Defender tyres on. :giggle: So soon everyone should be happy. Gavin Green from CAR magazine said today that after speaking to Mr Tata and a few others at the Delhi show that the look of the car was now pretty much signed off and that it will go to production pretty much as is!

Make mine a Defender 120 Five door with a five cylinder diesel thanks in the previous solid blue colour with a white roof. Ta.

I am driving a 1200cc 5 doors Defender 101.

In fact I think all Yeti drivers are driving a Defender 101 if that's the styling they are sticking with.

Yeti wheelbase 2578mm (101 inched)?

Oh yes, of course - always wanted one, but way to impractical - may be I can sleep in it :wonder:

Not a problem, buy an ambulance bodied one. You could even have 3 friends to sleep over with you!!
