Rear discs and pads

Featured Replies

Chaps,

the rear discs and pads on my vRS have given up the ghost, is there an opinion as too what the best replacement is? Are OE parts as good as anything else, ECP have Pagid parts as standard... are these ok or would some drilled/grooved discs be better?

I've had performance discs on a car previously and never really thought that it made any difference, maybe I wasn't going fast enough!! ;)

Heard that grooved discs can make the 'mooing' worse, and my brakes are definately mooing at the moment.

Any thoughts?

Believe Awesome also do Pagid which should be fine. Id recommend some VHT for the disk centres & edges if they are not coated from the factory to stop em rusting.

I run EBC Ultimax (I think thats the brand, can't remember!) pads with their matching drilled/grooved discs. They were cheap on ebay.

They have been on the car over a year, have done approx 10k miles, and have been very good - much of an improvement over anything I have had fitted previously in the 4/5 years I have owned the car, and I can't imagine OEM brakes being any better.

As for mooing, there was some present before changing the brakes, and there was about the same amount present afterwards, however I cured this by fitting a set of handbrake return springs from a Sharan / Alhambra.

just fitted pagid from ECP on mine been spot on so far. my last set on the back did 60k and only changed them cos i was doing the bearings anyway.

Pagid are an OEM supplier to VAG anyway. The difference with ECP (and GSF too) is that the boxes are labelled "Pagid" rather than having a VAG $marque stamp on them.

Remember that ECP are the SOLE UK importer for Pagid Brake Parts

But you are correct in saying, Most Pagid parts (especially the VAG ones) are the same pads, friction material and fittings as they supply VAG themselves - The only difference is on the production line they are stamped with the PAGID brand, and not the VW/Audi/Skoda symbol
