DWP-A DECISION AT LAST!

Featured Replies

I had decided to buy a Yeti some time ago and settled on the SE Plus with loads of goodies or possibley the Elegance. My ever optimistic wife said wait for the result from the DWP regarding my claim,so I did, they refused it (expected)I asked them to look again which they did and without any further info from me they awarded it  so now I can progress after waiting 3 months for the DWP.

Decided on the Elegance as I would like the Ghobi interior and not an option on the SE Plus.BUT Sat Nav on SE+ is standard and extra on the Elegance, and no choice it has to be £1510's worth of Columbus. So have decided on the following spec:

YETI ELEGANCE 2.0 TDI CR 170PS 4x4 DPF +

COLUMBUS SAT NAV

HEATED WINDSCREEN

TEXTILE MATS

TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING

VARIABLE BOOT FLOOR AND NET.

Colour I CAN'T DECIDE!!!!!

Nothing silver or silverish,not black

Thinking of Dark Blue,Dark Red,Green or Dark Brown but definitely want Ghobi

Really need to see the colour in the flesh to decide, particularly with the Green as it looks different in every different photo.

So if any members could give help, advice, guidance or suggestions I would be grateful.

Thanks

GEOFFL

And a special mention for the DWP on my 3 month wait :finger:

I would sacrifice ultimate speed/grunt and get the DSG. Just an amazing thing this gearbox. And if you still want grunt chip the car!

A spare wheel is surely option number 1?! Gunk ruins tyres once used as I'm sure you've seen in plenty of threads on here by now! Furthermore I'd add at least front parking sensors or go the whole hog and add Park Assist - also VERY useful once you get used to either of these. Then if you have two drivers get the electric seat. Brilliant to have the seat and mirrors ready for each driver as they unlock the car with their respective key. AND it gives you the auto dipping feature on the passenger mirror when you select reverse. As to textile mats - you can't jetwash them so useless in my book, but each to their own! :giggle:

As to colour have a look at them here in this thead. Be bold and get a copper one (see image of one here). Gobi will go down well with that or indeed Muscovado. My favourite colour apart from my Steel Grey.

Think carefully about Gobi- I have it and wished I had stuck to black. Looks cheap on door trims and seat grimes up quickly.Mine is now discontinued Amazon green and looks ace.

Nice spec Geoffl.

If we get another monster my wifes favourite colour is muscovado with gobi leather, it looks great . Don't be put off the Gobi, it cleans up a treat with a quick once over by Aldi/Lidl leather wipes .

I personally couldn't live with the black germanic interior.:wonder:

Geoff, congratulations! And welcome to the 'club'

Nice choice of spec.

As a Motability driver you won't have to worry about not having a spare. The breakdown co will fix at the roadside and if the tyre is not useable after the puncture or gunk then Kwikfit just fit a new one under the terms of the contract.

As for colour you could be bold and go with the new bronze or be more conventional and go for muscovado, both will look ace with the gobi interior.

I am presuming you opted for the variable boot floor to cater for lifting a chair in and out?

One thing to bear in mind is that it slightly reduces the depth of the boot from the tailgate to the seats but this can be got back by sliding the seats forward ( not the middle one though )

Now as you've waited 3 months for a decision from DWP you'll be used to waiting for the yeti to arrive.

Thanks to everyone for their prompt and useful replies, they have made me think (I usually buy on impulse)

Going to my local Dealers (D.M.Keith Osset)today just to look at colours-real ones preferably-not bothered which model they're on.

Ghobi not a problem as I had a Ka with pale beige leather and that looked great, took on the appearance of a lived in armchair after a while and looked even better.

Going to price mudflaps, don't appear to be available as factory fit.

Also looking @ 3-Spoke wheel as opposed to standard 4-Spoke.

The idea of the variable boot floor is to bring the boot up to lip level as we do volunteer work for Cats Protection so theres lots of loading and unloading of Food,Litter,Cat carriers etc.

Not at wheelchair stage yet (Thank God) but who knows whats in the future.

Also like the idea of a wood trim with Ghobi but don't know where or how to get it - if you can.

Finally going in a bit deeper to DSG Initial reaction from both of us was No Automatic. (old school but things have changed, maybe a test drive in order)

Once again thanks for the tips and anymore gratefully received.

Geoff

PS going to look at Park Assist as well, Thanks Johann!-I could probably get a 2nd Hand Roller cheaper!

Hi Geoff and welcome to the forum.

Have you considered a sunroof??? they are WELL WORTH the investment..................and here is Ivor on 'pick-up' day 1st Sept last year, the pacific blue looks GREAT (and it's FREE because it's not metallic emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif)

I agree with Johann regarding the DGS auto gearbox, makes driving it slow moving traffic MUCH less or a chore without all that gear changing. emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Welcome Geoff,

Had a DSG on my Octy. Best gearbox ever. Your choice of colour will keep you fit. Dark colours realy show up the road grim.

Mud flaps... Not a factory option but a dealer option, they fit them before you collect the car. IIRC they're about £70 fitted for the four?

Wood trim is also available, online from Allams Skoda (forum sponsors) and are apparently dead easy to fit yourself. They just clip into place.

As for paint colours again, as a Motability customer, metallic colours only unless you pay extra for a solid colour.

The reasoning is that solid colours are less desirable on second hand cars so the resale value after 3 years is less.

Geoff, do bear in mind when looking at the options list that you will only have the car for 3 years (unless you buy it at the end of the contract) and all options add to the advance payment.

It's still good to have the ones that make the car a better place to be though.

I would go for a spare wheel rather than the raised boot floor, ends up much the same for loading purposes, and it will give peace of mind.

I personaly prefer the Yeti in a plain colour, went for red personally, but the white looks really good. I don't think the metallics do the car justice, and you will save a third of the columbus price.

Bear in mind that with the SE Plus the sat nav is the Amundsen unit so a lower spec than the Columbus you are ordering.

Ian

Hmm! A dangerous question to ask what colour is best as you are likely to have as many different responses as there are colours. The 'Yeti colour, engine and trim survey' on this forum will give you an idea of the most popular.

My black Yeti should arrive in a week or two BUT ever since ordering i have wondered if i should have gone for white - it is clearly the best colour for showing of the distinctive Yeti lines - something almost completely lost in black.

Decisions, decisions.

I love my muscovado/Gobi combination - but, like lots of people I guess, as soon as I have a new car I wonder whether I've made the right colour choice ... In my mind, there's no doubt that white suits the Yeti styling most of all but, living deep in the country, surrounded by dairy farms and all the detritus they leave on the roads, I was not brave enough to go for it, and I still think that was probably wise (although I may succumb to white next time, assumimg any restyling of the Yeti does not alter the effect of colours).

Motability chappie from D.M.Keith coming tomorrow with Yeti to test drive and hopefully answers to a few questions I had.

Saw swatch for BRIGHT YELLOW in dealership but not available, (anyway SWMBO said NO WAY!)

Anyone know if SAFARI is available or is it just in the brochure to make the numbers up??

Will let you know how Friday goes.

Cheers

GEOFFL

Sorry Geoff, but according to James at Allams, safari isn't available :'(

Hi and Thanks but according to my potential dealer it is now! He actually ordered one for a customer in April/May.

However, hasn't heard anything from Skoda so he's going to check and see if he can get a swatch. Also waiting to hear about the other questions he asked Skoda on my behalf, such as do I have to have Columbus Sat nav or can they fit Amundson.

Will let everyone know when I hear something.

Cheers,

GEOFFL

that link was to a post some time ago and was the latest i could remember.

if they do safari and you get it then well done.

but the question we all need the answer to is...

How did the test drive go?

Believe this is the safari albeit on a CZ Fabia Scout;

Photo's look good, Thanks, depends now on SHMBO feels about it.I think it will look good with Ghobi.

Test drive went very well, Libby did all the driving, back roads,Motorway, main road and a trip over the cobbles and pot-holes.

Well impressed Car was a light blue Yeti 2.0 S 110 bhp 2wd. Very smooth ride, good handling, comfortable driving position etc.

One drawback-Neither of us liked the black interior with the grey plastic trim, looked a bit cheap and definitely dark and gloomy.

Only problem now is what price he comes up with for my Fiesta ST 05 plate.

All in all I'm fancying Sahara, I know we won't be able to see one in the flesh but swatches and catalogues are misleading so just might take a punt.(We both liked the Rosso until we saw one in the flesh and we both shook our heads!)

Won't have a problem with Winter tyres unless it's next winter before it arrives, because it ain't gonna be this one!

Thanks to all

GeoffL

Will let you know what the offer is and we can all have a laugh! :giggle:

Just had another look at the Safari pictures and it seems to be a sort of Mushroom, which is exactly the colour Libby has ordered for our new blinds. (She's trying to spend it all before I shuffle off this Mortal coil, obviously hasn't heard Jack Benny's retort when told that he can't take it with him. "If I can't take it with me I'm not going!")

Cheers

I believe you were looking at having the elegance spec with gobi interior.

If you do that the interior looks totally different, not having the grey plastic trim.

Wood trim looks great with the gobi

Yes the Elegance and SE spec looks far better inside - amazing what silver chrome door handles can do to an interior!

As promised my potential dealer came back with an offer to buy my Fiesta - £2800.00 :bandit:

After a long silence at my end he realised I was not a happy bunny, but said if I wished to sell private it wouldn't be a problem.

He did agree to speak to his manager to ask him to ring round see if he could do any better.

I said OK and in the meantime I would ring the dealers in Sheffield and Harrogate (not too far from me and not D.W.Keith's)

To cut a long story short after a couple of calls (within 5 minutes)from Keith's I settled on £3300.00  mainly to avoid the hassle of a private sale.

Going over on Wednesday to finally place the order
