economy run...

Featured Replies

right, just off on a 300+ mile journey, and I have until 7pm to get there so no rush... may as well see what I can get out of it!

15,000 miles filled with BP ultimate...

here we go!

6500 miles filled up with Momentum 99 and I was getting 45.5 MPG on an economy drive over about 40 miles! :) I have photographic evidence too but i'm at work and can't upload it! :(

Let's see what you'll get...

First tank away from the dealer's (car had already 5000KM), was emptied giving a shamefull 14lt/100km, (20 mpg), but I was driving it full agressively.

Second tank with more "everyday" use and way less "pushing" is around 9lt/100km (30 mpg) which is not exactly promising but maybe they had it on 95 before? I filled up with 98 so I have to wait 2-3 fill-ups I think.

I've filled up four or five times nad it's not much better !!

Even when I try 30mpg is the most I get.........

:S Lol, so much for hoping of an improvement then... Ok I know its a performance car and I didn't expect to have this incredible response to the pedal without a price... But why the heck are the official figures so far from reality? I mean 6,2 (nominal) vs 9 lt/km is almost 30% higher. A foul from Skoda there I think...

Unless! you can achieve this low consumption if driving exclusively on D-Auto, and never asking for the turbo neither the supercharger to work, that would be never depressing the gas pedal aggresively, and never exceeding 2000 rpm... But then why buying this version anyway?

I have not regret whatsoever, I just hoped that with a nominal mixed consumption of 6,2 lt/100km I could be around 7.5/8 and it seems it will be around 9+ ...

I easily hit 30mpg around town driving briskly. Cruise at 75 when i first bought my car was around 42mpg. 4000 miles on same journey im above 50mpg

50mpg than good for a vrs

As i said in another thread, i remember reading that on SCN and on here about guys getting 48-50mpg and thinking they were talking carp as even gently i couldnt better 44mp. But mines just improved and improved. Bear in mind mine is mapped and basing it off my previous mapped cars, ive always gained a couple mpg over stock on a motorway cruise so that no doubt will help, and i only use 99ron fuel

Also bear in mind that the journey i made the 51mpg on was from maidstone to nottingham which includes a 20 mile long 50mph contraflow on the M1 which would help the economy ALOT

i managed 46mpg on a 18mile trip, half and half of A and B roads, 4 in the car, never went over 3k revs :-) also helps when im running on fumes and the nearest 99ron is 15miles away!

These are the figures I would expect to get in a Fabia VRS. I can strech our Octy TSI VRS to 45 mpg or so and get the range up to 570 miles and our 1.8 TSI to around 50 mpg and get 630 miles on the range in similar journeys ie some 50-55 mph in the extensive road works and 65-70 mph the rest of the time.

Sometimes it is quicker to back off my 5 mph or so as you get home quicker as you do not have to stop to fill up.

What I would like to see is larger fuel tanks in the Fabia VRS and EA888 engined Octys. Other cars, even in the VAG range, ie the Exeo and A4, have 14-15 gallon tanks and 700-900 mile range and although based on the A4 are overall similar overall size to the Octy2.

Usin the tipronic mode on the Fabia VRS and doing the some say insane freewheeling down long hills can add 2 or 3 mpg ie 20 or 30 miles to a tankful and if you "disengage" at indicated 80 mph down the hills it does not seriously affect journey times.

Still aiming to get 55 mpg on the computer ie about the Skoda published 53 mpg extra urban for my 1.8 TSI as the computer clearly over-reads by about 5% so range should show around 700 miles. I would probably change to a Fabia VRS if the tank was bigger. Do people notice a drop in mpg on 95 octane? Certainly use to in the VRS Mk1 and Leon Cupra which was 98 octane recommended.

Managed a calculated 48 mpg on a run from Kent to Cornwall in August :)

Very happy with that!

Return journey was crap and full of traffic and was calculated 38 mpg...

not appropriate , I'm going 350+ miles down a motorway, doing 145mph all the way would be just plain stupid and dangerous... need I go on?

Hi sharkrider, remember the fruit pastell, bet ya cant suck it

lol... no, I had to chew!!!!

well update then, after 7 hours I have completed my journey , 386 miles, thought I would make it on one tank, but didnt!!!

it was close though, if I had managed not to chew the fruit pastle, I would have made it on one tank with about 45 mpg, which is how the first half of the journey was! however , when it got busier, and people started to annoy me, I started to have bursts of speed...

result? just over a tank of fuel used and 40.9 mph, and that includes driving out of the M6 toll like it was the quater mile ;)

acceptable I think, I could have made it at 45 mpg, if I was willing to endure a very boring drive ;)

Shark

I think you could have done better and still gone faster :D

i agree, but like you said before, this isn't the choice of car to do this sort of thing ! lol.... my normal commute is only 9 miles, and its otherwise used for "fun" ;) but was worth a try! 40.9 is ok compaired totheir official figures :)
