HELP! Constant EGR problem's on BLT engine vRS

Featured Replies

I really need some help and suggestions off people now regarding my engine check light keep coming on on my BLT '06 vRS as it's starting to annoy me.

I originally bought the car in May with only 34k on the clock and a week later I had the light come on. I had it cleared and decided to remove the EGR and clean it out.

The car was relativly fine for a while but once again during a long M'way Journey on 'eco mode' the light came on once again, after filling with diesel from Tesco. A couple of week's later I made the same journey once again (at the same speed) after filling with Shell diesel and I had NO issues with the light coming on at all.

At the time I put it down to rubbish fuel from Tesco's as I had issues running my old car from supermarket fuel.

The car has been fine for a while now up until the end of last month, where I took a trip over to Louth and since then I have had the light come on at least 8 times for a few starts till it goes out again. The other evening I decided to remove the vaccum pipe from the EGR valve and block it off, and the next day I cleared the EGR insufficent flow fault code.

The car drove brilliantly and felt a lot smoother and was fine for another few day's but once again the light has come on again.

What are the suggestions as to what maybe causing these constant issues with the EGR valve?Could it be blocked off once again and thus blanking it off has made no affect and I need to clean it again to gain the benefits? or is there something more to it than that?

Sounds like you probably need to completely replace the EGR valve, after a while cleaning will make no difference and I think that might be where you are now.

Also worth noting it may have had the gasket fitted to eliminate the stutter. If this isnt drilled out a little larger it can cause the light to come on during long distance light throttle input runs.

I've only cleaned it the once upto now, I'm gonna give it another clean shortly and see how it goes.

I've fitted the gasket myself to eliminate the stutter but didn't drill it out. Should I go and carry this out?I wouldn't say it's coming on at light trottle long distance run's, the light went out earlier on this afternoon but after driving less than a mile it came back on once again.

Drill the gasket to 11mm

The EML came on and went off a couple of times when I did the 9mm gasket on my BLT, since drilling it out it's been fine.

I didn't have time earlier to drill it out but will do that tomorrow. Will having the EGR vaccum pipe blocked off cause the engine light to come on still?

I've been driving the car today and started it several times now and even reconnected the vac pipe off the EGR valve but yet the light still refuses to go out now and is staying on constantly now.Is there anything else which may cause the light to come on that I should look into checking?

Drill it out to 11mm it isnt seeing enough flow to the egr valve

Scan it for faults and see what it comes back with.
