Skoda Approved Used Cars

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I was looking at the advantages of buying a Skoda approved used car. The blurb says that the warranty period can be extended at time of buying.

Does anyone know if you can extend the warranty later or do you loose this ability if not done when buying?

Thanks,

Dougall

I find extending the Skoda warranty is expensive compared to other after market alternatives available and gives no more cover. So unless you can negoiate it into the purchase of the car as a free add on then I would look at places like warranty direct etc. for more cost effective cover.

Although it isn't always straightforward comparing like with like. My car is 6 months short of being out of warranty and so I've started to look at what's available if I decide to get an extended warranty cover (although it's still a big if). Warranty Direct certainly seem to have the best reputation, but if you can get an extended Skoda warranty as I understand things it will continue to include the full Skoda Assist/RAC Breakdown cover - and when you add in a decent RAC (or other) breakdown package on top of a warranty cover from elsewhere then the sums may actually balance a lot more than at first sight. Certainly I'd be very interested in hearing what others think (although I know there will be a lot saying just save the monthly payments into a seperate savings accounts for if/when you need a repair as chances are it will be the cheapest option of all!)...

When I looked at extending after the 1 year period mine came with it was around £380 for the year, which included the full Skoda Assist cover. Warranty Direct wanted £400, which wouldn't have included any breakdown cover.

And you can choose to do it whenever you like, doesn't have to be now. Think it's limited to 6yrs or 60k miles though, not sure you can get it if your car's passed that (or it might be on a higher tariff anyway).

You can get it for more than 6 years but think it costa a bit more. Will certainly examine this option as I recently bought a used car that is now 5.5 years old but only had 38000 on the clock - I do intend to keep it a long while. I don't fancy a £1000 bill for a new turbo :-)

I have the Skoda Warranty for my 07 plate, Octavia PD TRi Vrs. I believe a fully stamped up service book with a Skoda dealer and Skoda Warranty may get you a little extra.

Just my thoughts,

problem is it's a mechanical breakdown warranty.

So door seals on a 4 year old car are not covered.

Shocks were but first insurance tech said out was not. Took a complaint from me.

Renewal of skoda assistance is very good value 140 ish for 2 years. Slightly more than direct line per year but price fixed and better cover.

You pays yer money.......

I think we got value as replaced 2 rear shocks and am aerial booster.

2 year skoda extension is better value than one.

Worth noting that with the Skoda warranty you have to pay for diagnostics if you have any problems and you DON'T get this cost back. Even if you go in with a dead car you have to pay for time for the diagnostics kit to be plugged into for them to read the fault codes back, the same applies for small trivial problems.

Skoda warranty also covers electrical components but not wiring ;)
