Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2?

Featured Replies

just an update on this from me if anyone is interested in living with the tyre after ( michelin ps3 and goodyear as2 fitted on front in October 2011 )

the AS2 I still showing good wear rate, on a par if not better than the michelin on the other front end. 4.5mm left after 8000 miles. Never had an issue in the wet and only one scrabble in the dry at a junction. Concerned when I got the GY that the wear rate wouldnt match the Michelin but seems ok. Noise level is fine too as I had read the AS1 could be a bit noisy. GY2 also has a rim protector which has came in handy once in a carpark, scuffed sidewall with small tear but has not developed into anything ( see my other posts I know about sisewall damage ! ) But seemingly its built into the tyrewall to do so according the web. Tyrereviews website seems a handy place to visit when you are looking for advice. Would trust it more than a trackday from AutoExpress, realworld driving tyrereviews from a cross section of driviers rather than a scream round the track.

I've got a pair of these on the front replacing the OEM tyres that came with the car and they're lovely & quiet and they hold the road like glue, very happy & impressed with them.

It's the first time I've had Goodyear's, normally I have Pirelli, Conti's or Michelin's, but the write ups have been quite good for the Goodyear's so as they were on special offer at the time, I decided to give them a shot, glad I did. Shame I won't have the car long enough to replace the rear one's with the same.

If I get a vRS later in the year, I might take the stock tyres off that, sell them & replace them with these.

When I had my Golf G60 I had Yokohama A3?? somethings, probably A349s, which were great for everything apart from when it was p1ssing down, and had F1s on there too which were also fantastic on 15" rims.

Since i've had my 17" octy however, once the oem tyres went i've had PS3s on and they've proved to be a very good tyre for my car, and not toooo expensive, relatively.

Cheers for that.

I'm going to be taking my winters off in the next few weeks and still plan to get a set of 4 Assymetric2s.

Had asymmetric 2's on the front for the last few months.  Very happy with them - grip and handling is fine although I don't rag it around test tracks so not really taken them to the limit, wear is good.  Most noticeable difference is the ride is more cushioned then it was on the conty 2's that came with the car.

As long as they dont fall apart in the last 3mm all four being replaced by gyas2. Best all round tyre around by miles, tried mich ps3 , dunlop ( !!!! ) and gyear. Have new contract contis on my works van as well.

34k miles a year so I watch how my tyres perform VERY carefully.

Great handling on the Octy too.

Swapped from Conti SC3 to these. Road Noise halved. Fantastic grip, wet or dry. Recommended.

I had some Eagle F1s on my previous Suzuki Swift, absolutely excellent tyres, But they were the symmetrical pattern ones and being 195/40/17s they were an odd size and not cheap!

On my Octavia, now I know I'm going to get flamed, but I've just put on a pair of Kumho's (KU37s I think) on the front. Basically I was strapped for cash and I needed to replace a on the limit and mismatched cracked conti SC2 and firestone before a long trip.

Initial impressions were a bit dubious, I proceeded a bit gingerly at first. Since it's bedded in a bit though, I must admit, the tyres are great! Great grip in both wet and dry and much reduced road noise compared to the mismatched pair previously. Ok I cant compare them to a new set of premium tyres but I've no problems with traction and my octy's been mapped. I'd say these tyres punch well above their weight, and if you're not a brand snob worth considering. they were £80 each fitted, so a hefty saving too.

Okay i'm soon gonna be needing a full set so I think i'm gonna be checking out a set of these in place of my existing PS3's. Happy with the Michelin's, but after doing a basic pricecheck of these two models on a few sites, the AS2's are looking uniformly about £15 a corner cheaper...

...AND tyrereviews rate them VERY highly! If you click on the tyre, it looks like they're barnstorming a LOT of awards this year from all over the place!

Still interested as to how rob's gotten on with them though...

Just had 4 goodyears fitted after the winter and they are a great tyre, i used to own a civic R and swore on bridgestones. th goodyears are a great all round tyre, they grip well in wet and road noise is very low. tyre wear seems to be very good and best of all i got them for £100 each for the GYA2's, cant fault them at all.

Only thing I'd say against them is when it gets cold they are way worse than any other tyre I've tried - they really do go very hard and wear really quickly... Hence winter tyres ;)

ah well thats me screwed, haha

I can not disagree that winter performance is iffy but I think that has applied to every 'all seasons' tyre that I have had and could not say the GYs were any worse. There is still no substitute for dedicated winter tyres when the rain and snow sets in. They are still a great tyre and the excellent rim protection has spared me from some alloy damage on quite a few occasions.
