I phone/blue tooth

Featured Replies

Hi all I have a 2007 VRS with the factory sat nav I think its a mdf2 or something I have looked at a lot of threads on here about factory bluetooth and after market ones Confused  ,which 1 sould i get so it will display on my maxi dot??,also can anyone tell if there is a ipod interface that can be used with this factory head unit

It will not work through Maxidot but consider a Parrot MKi 9200. I have one fitted to my vRS and hopefully one going in my brand new Scout tomorrow (so I can collect it).

Bassically it consists of a removeable screen fitted on dash (mine is above stereo between vents) it is abot 3" square. A wireless remote which sticks where you want it, mine is near to headlight switch, a microphone in roof lining and a cable which is in the glove box.

The Parrot copies your phone contacts via bluetooth to its memory so you can either scroll contacts, or voice activate them to ring out (it dumps contacts when it shuts down so it can sync with any phone each time key is turned, allows my wife to use her phone too). It quietens stereo when call received, the cable in glove box allows for attachment of Ipod/phone, USB (stick etc) or simple jack connection. If Ipod/phone is attached it charges too.

I have a USB to micro USB which works/charges my HTC phone.

You can play music via phone/usb stick/ipod/CD player/bluetooth from phone or SD card slot in rear of screen.

The Parrot uses the speakers from the car, but not the stereo so you don't need stereo on....

I think it is a great wee gadget, costs bout £250 ish with fitting.

Have a look at Parrot website and see what you think.....

OEM bluetooth kits need coding to display on maxidot. 2 OEM versions available - 5K0 035 730 B (HFP) and 5N0 035 730 D (HFP and rSAP). Both works with iPhone. 5K0 displays on columbus even without coding but not the 5N0. Once coded both shows on maxidot and columbus. On ebay the unit with all cables will cost about £220 - 250. There is a long thread somewhere here about self installing. You could ask one of the members to assist with coding or independant dealers may charge upto £40. Both kits support A2DP for music over bluetooth.

OEM iPod interface or MDI can be retrofitted. I think it may cost about £200ish.

Ben@Shark Performance does these kinds of retrofit. you could PM or call him for quotes. oops sorry I note that you live in Scotland and Ben is near Nottingham.

Another option is the Bury CC9060.

I have an A3 with the above mentioned Parrot and my Octavia has the Bury unit as it was fitted by the previous owner.

I'd say there's little to choose between the two, but here's my advice.

If you want it for music the Parrot is the best option, I have been unable to get music streaming to work with the Bury.

If you want it for handsfree calling the Bury is the best option. It allows 2 phones to be connected at once and the voice control is very good. You can make and take calls without ever taking hands off the wheel.

They're both good solutions and I'd recommend either.

Having used various BT kits in the past - Parrot, Nokia, Motorola etc and in various vehicles, please just fit an OEM BT kit from eBay and get it coded. It will wipe the floor with aftermarket kits
