226 bhp Standard Jabba Remap

Featured Replies

The other arguement would be though is how much hassle would there be from insurance companies if cars made considerably more than the claimed figures.

Ive also been told but dont know if its true that insurance in Germany is based on a cars bhp hence 110, 130, 150, 180 etc bhp

Just to add a little balance...my car only put 178bhp on Jabba's rollers :( ...does that mean I originally had less than that?

or does that mean you need to add 2bhp on to your remap figure? ;)

maybe jabba's rollers were 2bhp down that day!! ;)

either that or your car is maybe a 150bhp version and the rollers were way out and you need to take 30bhp off ur remap figure :rofl:

ps. not offence intended only sarcasim :D

My opinion for the figures of any rolling road is that unless it's an RR day with similar cars to compare to than the percentage increase is the best guide rather than the final figure.

no rolling road will give a bang on figure for a cars exact BHP and i dont care how calibrated they say the rollers are.

even on a RR day when standard cars are run the figures can still fluctuate.

the operator can adjust the temperature of the rollers and the wheel size on the s/ware that measures the cars wheel power.

to give you an example.

my renault 19 16v was standard apart from a full scorpion exhaust, stainless induction kit and group b clutch. it had 145 thousand miles on the clock and ran 168bhp on a rolling road in stoke. other cars there ran what we expected but i think the operator got the size of the wheels on my car wrong (i was running 17's). the most it had run on other RR's was about 140bhp consistently.

the only way you can get an idea of the power your car is running is to run it on as many rolling roads as you can and make an average from them.

of course when i sold the R19 i gave the owner a copy of the 168bhp RR graph ;)

All the RR's I've seen don't enter wheel size.

The RR simply measures torque and RPM and BHP is calculated from this. RPM is set by holding the car at set revs and telling the RR what that is. E.G. hold the car at 3krpm and tell the dyno that's what the car is revving at.

Flywheel figures are calculated by dipping the clutch at the end of the run and allowing the dyno to measure the resistance.

As for temperature I prefer to take the uncorrected figure and I know JBS refuse to use temperature correction factors to up figures.

other thing is its ok for someone that was a car modified by one tuner to say "nah your not running that sort of power" when they actually dont know either way.

i have no idea what power my vRS is putting out, i know its about standard as theres only the jabba induction kit and recirc fitted, i do know however that the mods have made the car more responsive and easier to drive (less lag).

at the end of the day its how you feel it in your pants... the feel of the car. if your happy that the cars quicker, more powerful, easier to drive... whatever. then thats good stuff.

the main reason for RR's is to ensure the car is running right, to simulate driving on the road. thing is everyone is obsessed by the MAX bhp that their car runs and thus the tuners print a graph and rag the car for its max power.

tbh i dont think i'd be interested in maximum power if/when i have a remap, an increase is always a bonus for your cash but i'd prefer better low to mid range torque to improve everyday acceleration.

I assure you that Gary's comment's are educated ones and not simply an opinion.

I think most tuners remaps are gonna give similar peak results but it'd be nice to make comparisons of how they get there on the same RR. It'd be really good to see some cars remapped by Jabba, AMD etc.. at the upcoming RR day.

i take it Gary is the guy with the Golf ? ... its a nice looking car and i've read some of his posts before, i'm not saying he doesnt know what he's talking about (didnt mean the last posts to come across that way) and it would be nice to see and speak with people that have these cars and have modified them well.

whats this about an up coming RR day then? where and when? wouldnt mind running mine to make sure things are as they should be.

The thread about the RR day is here. BTW Gary will there running his car and I'll be running mine.

Whether Jabba's figures for my car are out or not - they are the one's passed over by Mike, who certainly seems to know his stuff.

After the remap the car felt markedly different - smoother, more sustainable power on tap in any gear / rpm. The torque was also substantially increased.

However, that is all moot at the moment because I have the engine managment warning light constantly on - and whether it is pyschological or not, the car doesn't feel the same.

I am just waiting to see whether replacement of the temperature housing will cure the problem, as they seem to think it will. So I will just have to wait until Skoda UK get these items back in stock :(
