226 bhp Standard Jabba Remap

Featured Replies

Just in case anyone didn't know the kind of performance boost a 'standard' remap can give, I thought I would let you know of my experience.

I took my black Octavia vRS into Jabba just over a week ago for a standard remap, and the power was boosted to 226bhp.

The car is less than 2 months old and has no other modifications.

Of interest was the fact that Mike at Jabba indicated the power output to be 193bhp before the remap, which is quite a bit more than the published 180 bhp for the vRS. I just wonder how wide this fluctuation is for the car in standard form?

It's not all sweetness and light, however, as I'm having problems with the Engine Management System warning light, (the orange one which looks like an engine). This is staying on constantly, and although the dealer has reset the system twice, and replaced the coolant sensor, the problem isn't resolved.

This has nothing to do with the remap, (as it first occurred one week after taking delivery - before I took it to Jabba), and if anybody has had a similar problem, or any ideas on what could be the cause, I would be grateful if you could let me know.

Thanks

Congrats on the remap, hope you enjoy the car with its extra power.

(hate to say it but i think there maybe a few remarks made on the power figures!);)

Did Jabba have any idea what it might be due to and is the problem generating any fault codes?

Denis, Mike at Jabba didn't have any idea, but the dealer tried to blame Jabba for not resetting the ECU, and charged me 50 quid for the privilege of doing it themselves(!). Subsequent error codes have related to the coolant system - which is why they replaced the sensor. This lasted all of 24 hours before the warning light came on again(!) I am taking it to the dealers tomorrow - and will wait to see what code is being generated this time. It may be psychological - but the car certainly doesn't seem to perform as well when this light is light. Possibly it's in some form of shutdown mode?

As an update to the engine management light problem - the dealer has been in touch with Skoda who think the temperature housing is to blame. They are going to replace this, but it has to be ordered. I will just have to wait and see.

Is it possible that when the engine managament light is on the car might go into a lump mode so to speak ?

So they're carrying out warranty work despite it having a remap ?? WOW!

My Elegance clocked 220bhp MAX at Jabba - Mike turned it down a little to preserve it's 70,000 mile engine a little and avoid overboost problems.

Chavy - I think the car is running in 'safe' mode, because I do notice a difference in performance. The dealer has stated this. However, it is not in 'limp' mode - which I understand doesn 't let you go above 2nd gear(!).

Goochie - the car is only 7 weeks old - and the remap doesn't really have anything to do with the problem, (apart from the dealer reckoning that Jabba forget to reset the ECU - and charging me to do it themselves). When I first bought the car I told them I was going to have it remapped, and they said it shouldn't be a problem warrenty wise. They use Jabba for re-mapping in any case. I bought the car from Alex Laurie in Liverpool, and apart from the fifty quid they charged me to reset the ECU, they have been very good.

Didn't Mike check the ECU for error codes at the end of the remap as I believe he normally does - and did with mine? At

Dennis - yes Mike did clear it down. I think that the dealer was just trying it on because the engine managment light problem recurred the day after I took the car to Peterborough. Because one of the errors related to the ECU I think they assumed Jabba was to blame. However, the problem has recurred twice since they reset the ECU, and the codes have nothing to do with the ECU. They are coolant related.

In fact it sounds like there has been a 'batch' problem with the temperature housings. The dealer informed me that Skoda have 80 on order and have switched from a German to Israeli supplier. It sounds like a few owners could be experiencing similar problems.

I will be looking to get the fifty quid reimbursed as it is now obvious to all and sundry that Jabba had nothing to do with the problem. I would be interested in knowing where I can get a copy of VAG-COM, however, and the cost.

You need to buy an interface lead plus software. Details are in the first thread in my Diagnostics here. I bought mine direct from Ross-Tech in the States. A HEX-USB+CAN interface (which is suitable for the New Octavia as well as being backwardly compatible) plus software cost

To clear the light yourself dis connect the battery for half an hour, it wont clear the fault codes but it will get you out of "safe/slow" mode

You also have 3 years free AA cover & the AA man will clear it for nothing & can also check error codes etc

Thanks Stuart

You have 13bhp more than a stock 180 engine in standard form, so then theres every chance that Jabba's rollers have over read by the said 13bhp  meaning you have 213bhp and not 226bhp.

Much more likely IMHO.

how did i know this was going to get brought up ;);):rofl:

Gary's car wasn't remapped by JBS. AFAIK the only work he's had done by JBS is the TIP and powergasket. Everything else was done by Awesome and his local Revo dealer.

I must be misreading his signature.

'ere we go again

Exactly as Eddy said.

I didnt have my car dyno'd prior to mapping.

The BHP figure was on JBS' rolling road at an RR day. I think Gary but JBS in brackets after the figure for clarity.

They all have more bhp than is specified by the manufacturer, thats to ensure they achieve the stated figure, can you imagine the how much hassle they would get from customers if it only managed 172 bhp on the rollers instead of 180

The other arguement would be though is how much hassle would there be from insurance companies if cars made considerably more than the claimed figures.
