Problem with yeti boot

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Does anyone else have a problem sometimes if you haven't quite shut the boot hard inuff it locks it's self and won't open because it's semi open kinda thing?

I'm getting quite annoyed now I have to slam it to stop it from doing this.

Is it a common thing or should I take it back to the dealer?

Haven't noticed this with mine. I find that if it isn't shut properly, it won't self lock. Does need a good shove to shut it though.

It doesn't like being treated gently......

Still takes some getting used to when a previous car i had had a 'soft close' feature.

Hi Dinski

I find the rear hatch takes a good push to close it, but if a door is open it will close a lot easier, all down to good seals and air pressure well thats my theory :wonder: .

regards locking itself are you using the boot unlock on the remote, it will lock itself if you use that,

I find I have to give mine a good slam to shut it. It takes some getting used to, but as previous poster said it doesn't like being treated gently.

I'm not so sure the term SLAM is the correct one?

It always brings to mind a careless act with no concern for the consequences.

I find that to shut the boot, I have to be POSITIVE with it.

Bring the boot lid down to about 6 inches from closed then give it a positive push to shut it.

Ok guys I don't think I explained this correctly, as I said it shuts but it doesn't shut properly, then when I try to press the button on the boot it will not open.

So it's almost like it's locked itself in it's semi open state. If I push the boot while it's like this it will not close. The only way I find around this is to fidle with the lock button on the centre console for a few seconds.

It's definatley a strange one this, as when I give a good slam (firm push) it shuts perfectly but it doesn't feel right treating my new car like that.

Anyway I just wondered if anyone else had the problem and if it was worth while me taking it back to skoda?

Thanks for everybody's help

I have this problem. It is caused by anything lying on the bit of the boot where the hatch closes.Doesnt need to be a big obstruction- in my case fishing socks, canvas rod bag, bit of Sainsburys carrier bag is all it needs. Bloody irritating.

Yes I have this too, as you say if you don't close it firmly enough you end up with the situation you describe, the only solution is to be a bit firmer in the way you shut it.

Just tried it on mine. If it latches but doesnt close fully then I just pull the handle and the micro switch releases it so I can reclose it properly.

Ok guys glad to know it's not just me although there is no obstruction when I do it and it still gets stuck.

Think I'll mention it to the dealer anyway, guess it can't harm.

My Thanks to everyone for trying it :-)

Could it be a simple difference in whether your boot is 'locked' or not when you shut it? I don't meant the force needed to shut it - I think it does need something of a tug - but whether it'll re-open again if you've been a bit limp-wristed with it? If you have just unlocked the boot, will it not be re-locked when you try to shut it, hence giving this problem? If the car is fully unlocked, then maybe this means you can simply open and try again?

Just guessing.

Ok maybe SLAM is a bit strong .. it's certainly doesn't shut under it's own weight, so needs a little PERSUASION. Thats a better description .. PERSUASION.

Does need a good shove to shut it though.

So does mine. I wonder if it gets better over time? The plate frame on the hatch rattles for about half a second if I push the latter good enough to lock. I am afraid it is going to come apart sooner or later.

Curiously, all the locks on my previous car (which was Lada) worked much softer. And although I have to give the doors on my Yeti more momentum to lock them properly, I like how they close. It is only the boot hatch that worries me.

Mine shuts under its own weight when "let go" from 9" to 12". No need for any assistance.

However, I had lots of problems with rattles when the car was new, and I suspect that amongst other things, the striker plate may have been adjusted when the dealer was trying to cure them. (It turned out to be the numberplate frame rattling against the bodywork in the end - I think!)

I think it gets better over time as I noticed a difference between my previous Yeti and my present one.

Not just the striker plate, aren't there two rubber bungs that adjust by screwing in and out?

When I got my Yeti the remote was one press to open the drivers door, two to open the other doors and the middle button to open the boot. If the tailgate was allowed to just catch on the first notch it would not re-open without using the fob. I changed it so that all doors and hatch unlock together and it is no longer a problem. It tells you in the hand book how to adjust the remote
