Fabia vRS-great car,quality control questionable..

Featured Replies

Sadly,I'm starting to feel a bit let down.

Love the car but why has the external door handle just come away in my hand.....

Why does the dashboard rattle and squeak on a brand new car...why do the door panels rattle and squeak I find it quite annoying.. it's already been back to dealer once but I don't want to start going down the road of trailing back and forth like I did with my mk1 vRS!

Skoda have to sort out these quality issues because the little things like this add up to lots of problems which might start putting people off...bloody door handle just dropped off and fell on the floor!!!!

Know how you feel mate, my 11 plate has a buzzing instrument binnacle, rattle from the dashboard drivers side, rattle from the passenger front door card and rattle from the boot.

Has been back to the dealers but it's the usual 'we can't find' anything.

I know it's hard to fix but like you say. if they just screwed it down a bit tighter and put some felt/rubber where plastic meets plastic. Simple stuff but saves a fortune on warranty claims....

Never mind, stereo is turned on constantly, so fixed !!!!

Youre right mate..

My Octavia is screwed together far far better than the Wife's Fabia

My vRS build quality has bin good all i have had is hand brake cover was loose and the n/s rear door was not closing right all fixed by the dealer i think i have one of the better cars out there

i think its the whole group my polo rattles emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Had the little Monte for 3 weeks now and so far very impressed. No squeaks or rattles. May be early days I suppose. My 3 year old Passat on the other hand has creaked and rattled since I bought it 6 months old. VW have been unable to locate the problem. Really spoils what is otherwise a top quality car.

Other than a slightly loose handbreak cover I've noticed no build quality issues nor any rattles or squeaks. Only thing that makes noise inside mine is the contents of the glovebox which was easily solved with a microfiber cloth.

Seems they're just pumping them out nower days... tis a shame really! Expected more from the volkswagen group, they bang on about 'quality'.

Largely depends on what factory they were built at I think.

Had my Passat 18 months now and done 18k miles without a rattle, buzz or creak. It has taken VW 5 years to get it right though the early B6 Passats suffered from centre console rattles, electric handbrake faults and reliability of the old 2.0 PD diesel was dissmal. Not something you'd expect when spending £25k on a VAG product. By 2010, 5 years after launch the B6 Passat was more or less problem free.

My wife's Mk1 Fabia was still rattle free at 8 years old with 50k miles but that's on comfort supension and 60 series rubber. Keeping cars buzz free with sports supension and 45 series rubber requires a whole new level of trim perfection.

Maybe Skoda require 5 years to get it right same as VW.

Don't think Skoda will bother though, the new Fabia can't be that far off as VW, Seat and Audi are already on the newer platform.

Bradley, your Vrs was Obviously built by " Northern Train Care " in there Depot @ Neville Hill emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

My dash had a rattle on it as well when I first got it the car and I was going to take it in to the dealers to have it sorted the next time I was through that way (80 mile round trip) but the car now has over 4K miles on it and its sorted itself out.

MY2012 vrs with no squeaks, rattles or buzzing yet. maybe i got a good one?

No drama's with mine,

  • 2 weeks later...

You kept that quiet bradley, when did you get rid of your wrc, hope you got a good price. You going to the meet on Sunday

Passenger door card has a slight rattle but only with certain music. I have a loose handbrake cover too. I'm not that bothered about it but what is the fix?

+1 from me on this one.

Such a nice car and all, but the rattles have started to drive me crazy... In the beginning there was only one I could hear, but now every time I go over bad roads, I hear 2-3 different ones simultaneously. I think another one from passenger's door panel has just developed. The thing is I live at an area where I have to drive 5-10 mins over roads like this in order to go home or leave from it so rattles make their presence clear every time! Maybe if I lived downtown, with all these smooth roads etc. I would only rarely notice so I would think my car is perfect.

What is more worrying though, is that I have a feeling the dealer won't be able to do much as it's just the way the car is manufactured below the dashboard. Lots of hard plastics which meet each other with no insulation rubbers whatsoever.

Also, tha damn dealer is situated at an area where they probably have the best roads around, so when I was there for oil change and asked them to check one specific rattle, they couldn't (neither myself) hear a thing.

Great!

To be honest, I would like to read something like that, only to strengthen my thinking that my next car will have been born in the land of the rising sun... We have a 16 year old Rav4 and I have not heard a single "little, annoying sound" like a rattle or squeak in all these years. Of course performance-wise they may offer less value-for-money but after I'll have lived some fast and enthousiastic years inside the vRS I'll cope with a weaker but more silent ride I guess.

Still I'm not saying I'm disappointed with it, it's more that the car is so damn good in all other areas that makes this weakness stand out so much... Yes, I think that describes it well.

We put up with an annoying rattle/squeak/buzzing for several years on a Fabia 2 TDI. The car is now completely squeak-free . The cause of the dashboard rattle/vibrations turned out, in the end, to be the driver's rear mirror not secured properly. So wiggle your mirror when the commotion starts. You might be surprised, possibly.

Great!

I think avoiding 40 series tyres and sport suspension might be a better way of thinking. With the state of uk roads it's no wonder hard riding cars have problems, even across the vag, bmw and ford forums cars are having issues. The Mondeo on 18" rims and sports suspension is having quite a few issues with interior trim rattles and buzzes, doesn't seem to effect normal riding models.

I've not seen many non VRS owners complain about trim problems, could be a similar issue.

I've got an 08 plate fabia level 3, and my older fabias included....Cornwall was lovely to drive around rattle free....you get to the midlands with really rough roads and the whole car seems to sound like its a tool box being shaken..

Maybe that's an extreme description lol...

But I do agree that without a bit of DIY and sound insulation your car will not live up to your expectations...

It doesn't help that they've designed the dash in such a way that its got serveral panels rather than the mk1 slush dash.

I noticed one of the rattles coming from the elastic bit in the door bins.
