Much demand for used TFSI?

I'm trying to word this carefully since I'm not a freedom member...

I've been looking to trade in the Octy for an older diesel. Trade in valuations have been pretty awful and a million miles away from forecourt prices or private sales that look reasonable. Much worse than I remember for any other car I've had.

Are reasonably priced second hard TFSIs desirable? As in do they sell quickly if they're not on for silly money?

There are prospective buyers out there that don't do the mileage to justify a diesel, however it doesn't matter how you argue the point the diesel vRS is more desirable and therefore they fetch a premium and sell much easier.

You'll be miles better selling the petrol privately then paying for the diesel afterwards.

More hassle, more risk but more cash in your back pocket get's you a nicer diesel.

I've sold two cars on eBay now, spent a few hours writing the description, listing absolutely everything about the car and then adding up to 40 pictures. They both fetched far more than I'd have ever hoped. Put the effort in to get the rewards!

There is a petrol hatch L&K in Hughes they have had this for some time was over £9k down to £8.5 and still not shifting

I think dealers tread more carefully on petrols, the new 1.2/1.4 ones seem to shift.

Well I hunted hard to find my petrol VRS.

I don't like diesels, and had a bad experience with one (as the milage crept up the repair bills rocketed). And I just don't like the noise diesels make, or all that muck they chuck out the exhaust! (And yes, I'm more than willing to pay the extra fuel costs - as I am low mileage these days, I couldn't justify the higher purchase price of a diesel engined VRS anyway.)

Good luck selling yours - there's a buyer out there for every car.

Having just seen on Watchdog the item about problems with DPF filters on modern diesels I am so glad I went back to petrol, we seem to have adopted diesels in this country and it is often the case that petrol is more economical in terms of maintenance and just good behaviour if you do a low to moderate mileage - in the end I am happy to put my hands up and admit I just didn't like driving a diesel, the petrol Vrs is wonderfully "long legged" responding over a wide rev range and I will never make the mistake of going back to diesel.... just at the moment aren't all trade ins awful and isn't everybody struggling to sell everything ? I have noticed that many dealers in my area have other make cars on their forecourt which I suspect is because they can no longer shuffle trade ins round to the correct brand dealer.

Yeh no matter what car it is the trade ins are rubbish, sooo glad we went for petrol again having previously had a BMW diesel which cost us thousands to repair.

Have just arrived at a friend's place having driven nearly 3 hrs in my TSI. Very fast, over 30mpg & extremely comfortable. Got out totally fresh & relaxed.

A used TFSI for under 9k is a huge amount of car for the money. If people don't want one, more fool them!

(excepting high mileage drivers)

What body style / age / mileage TSFI have you got and what sort of trade in prices have you been given

I've recently been looking for a used TFSi Octavia and noticed alot of cars on Autotrader semed to be for sale for a very long time. Odd ones sold quickly but they were very cheap. There was an 06 plate TFSi vRS hatch, excellent spec with just 11000 miles on the clock which sold for only £8000.

Race blue Hatch, 07, 52k, FSH inc timing belt.

Last offer from trader was £6k which admittedly was the worst I've had but not by much but what he was selling was hardly at a bargain price.

It wasn't that long ago I was quite easily getting offered 8k for it. I can only assume that it's because the car had gone through the 4yr barrier that it's dropped so sharply and hopefully won't go down so much over the next year.

Private sale is probably the way to go then but it will be a lot of hassle if I'm without a car for any length of time i.e. 6:30 bus to work :-(

Don't trade it in as you'll get more for it privately, you may just have to wait that little bit longer. Mine's going up for sale straight after xmas and I've got no worries regarding it being sold as it is quite a sought after car.

With regards to the diesel vs petrol debate, I'd say that if you do between 10 and 12k miles a year you'd be daft to buy a diesel vrs as they are just not as good to drive as the petrol verion and you wouldn't be saving much money either.
