Fabia VRS Drive Shaft?

Featured Replies

Was driving to work this morning and the problem started off small. Every little braking that I did I would get a hard clunk through the pedal and a jerk of the steering wheel. So started trying to diagnose as you do, going up and down the gears harsher braking and steering wheel full lock both ways etc etc.

1) When I brake as stated there is a clunk. This jerks the steering wheel and you can feel it through th brake pedal.

2) Also noticed when at the bite point if accelerating quickly (no brakes obviously) the same problem occurs.

Does anyone think this might be drive shaft related? Any advice of help would be greatly appreciated.

When or have the console bushes been replaced?

Make sure your wheel bolts are tight but sounds like console bushes failure symptoms

Thanks ill use this as a basis incase they try to Mug me!

The Bushes themselves aren't desperately expensive, About £8-£10 each, But it's a labour intensive job to fit, Find yourself a good VAG indy as they'll be familiar with the procedure, Which will bring the fitting time/costs down!

I paid £84 for console bushes fitting at my local independent earlier on this year.

Just ordered some ibiza cupra r bushes for mine,£23.50

Reads more like a dogbone issue but be careful. Could be anything from a loose brake caliper to knacjered pads to a loose console! I don't like the jerky steering effect, when both of my console bushes were shot it was merely "mushy", no clonking or undue jereking occurred.

Stuck it in my preffered garage yesterday for a check and he said its the most shodded wishbone bush he has ever seen. Showed me and looked like it had exploded. Effected the steering because bascially all the rubber had gone so there was heaps of movement. Also meant that the other side is cracked now to. Will have to get wheel alignment done also.

He said its common on the VRS's because they have such a hard suspension. Have to agree with him.

They all do it mate. Our SDI is one of the most comfortable

cars I've driven ride wise and I've had these bushes done twice in the

last year. To be fair the first time I bought cheapo pattern 2 web

bushes for it thinking they'd be fine on the SDI. I was wrong...

This time I've had genuine 4 web Octy 2 bushes fitted.

(Same as is currently on my vRS) Now my suspension on the

vRS has been upgraded, next time (and there will be a next time no doubt..)

I'll be going with the cupra variant.
