Air Horns

Featured Replies

Hi folks, :)

Looking at replacing the existing "peep peep" horn fitted to our Roomy with a Stebel Compact Air Horn. Understand that the existing horn is behind the nearside front bumper grill. Anybody made this change or an alternative?

Hi Eddie,

It's a worthwhile mod - I've done it on a couple of Roomsters now.

You're correct on the location and if you go with the Stebel unit it will fit in there without any issues.

Only change you need to make is to the moulded plug on the existing wiring. Cut that off and replace it with a couple of insulated spade terminals to fit the new horn.

Try "Just Kampers" for a supplier - they were amazingy cheap compared to the High Street when I last bought one.

Good luck,

Pete

Hi Pete,

Many thanks for that, great news. Looks as if i've got the location and horn sorted, all it needs now is for me to get it fitted. Will try Just Kampers as recommended.

Thanks again

Hi Pete

Just a further question, did you use the relay (supplied with horn) or is the existing horn fuse ok for the load?

Thanks

Eddie

I didn't bother as the current drawn wasn't huge and well within the fuse rating (can't remember the actual figure but I did measure it) - and I've since read that there may actually be a relay in there already (you can prove this by disconnecting the horn and then pushing the horn-push with ignition on - you may hear a click from the relay)

I reckon that the horn will only be used momentarily (second or two at most) unlike other relay driven loads like driving lights, that are on for long periods where current draw and heat may be an issue.

Some purists will disagree but I've had no trouble in almost five years of use.

If Roomster has factory fit alarm that uses original fit horn, won't that upset the alarm if fitting air horns and relay? Would like to fit to my Fabia 2 but concerned about alarm malfunction. Wot do others think?

You're welcome Eddie.

awfabia - good point. Never gave it a thought to be honest.

All I can say is that the alarm has gone off on both our Roomsters on rare occasions over the years, and there must be a seperate sounder fitted as it is not the air-horns that provide the noise. Factory fitted alarm system on both cars.

Hope that helps.

Mine certainly has a siren and I expect they would all be the same.

Alarms fitted by manufacturers are now (past 12yrs and longer) have seperate siren with built in rechargable battery back up in the same unit!!!......My 11yr old Fabia has anyway!!!! B)
