Tesco Fuel

Featured Replies

Years ago i put a few tanks of Tesco diesel in my lil 'ol Rover 25. To say there was a performance and economy drop would be an understatement.

Anyway its now a few years later and im toying with the idea of trying it in my VRS.

Does anyone use tesco diesel on a regular basis? Has the quality of the diesel increased in the last 4-5 years?

Thanks all.

I've recently used 2 tankfulls back to back (after using BP ultimate for absolutely ages).

Main differences are a bit more smoke, and a bit less power at the upper end of the rev range.

Otherwise if you drive economically most of the time, I didn't notice any other differences

I would rather urinate in my fuel tank, than use supermarket fuel. Espically Tesco's fuel.

BP the Ultimate Stuff....

I have used Tesco, Sainsbury's, Shell Fuelsave, Shell Vpower and the odd tank of other brands, Tesco gives the most mpg in my car (170CR Superb) no smoke and no power difference to the rest.

Also tried millers in the MKI PD130 Superb and it made no difference whatsoever, it did however quieten SWMBO's Fiesta TDCi down a bit.

BP the Ultimate Stuff....

+1

Hmm, I try use total when I can, when I use shell or tescos (nearest/most common alternative around here) feels little sluggish, not sure on mpg. Still hover around 45-53 mpg.

Don't use vpower etc, but use millers/vegiboost.

Tesco's fuel is absolutely fine - I've been running Tesco diesel in my Fabia vRSs for much of that time (though I did try BP Ultimate for about 10 tankfuls around 1995 - to no effect), and I use Tesco Momentum 99 Petrol in my Atom and Bandit - no problems whatsoever.

I thought after it goes through the 3 steps of refining. The last one being purification. I wouldn't have thought there much between them. Apart from a little bit more sulfur. Bit more smokey. I dont moind mine being a bit more smokey, escpecially when someones tailgaiting me

Petrol bought from supermarkets... now thats a diffent couple of fish.

All the same **** in my eyes. Diesel is diesel.

Gaz

Use Tesco in works van with no ill effects, mainly to get the points on clubcard but still use Shell in the Fabia

used Tesco for a while now on my vrs and no problems at all and no difference between BP :wonder:

Shell V-Power, mainly because they are cheaper than BP round my way and Shell points mean prizes, or money off in my case!

Plus V-Power Unleaded = double points all the time!

I go to shell but stay clear of supermarket fuel, I got told when they get the fuel from the refinery it's the poor quality fuel, got info from my bro who was taxi driver & all them around my area dont use supermarkets :-/

always use Tesco or Sainsbury's to be honest, no difference.. its all mind games if your testing it id say your looking for fault!

we use Tesco Momentum in the other 2 car's which is RON99 where as most others are only RON97/98 and is cheaper than normal unleaded from Shell/BP etc..

If you ask me, Your just paying for the name so to speak!! :smirk:

No fuel snobbery here either, nothing wrong with Tesco fuel, I get 400-450 miles out of an unvented tank if I use Tesco diesel or any other diesel for that matter.

Apparently it's down to how it's filtered supermarket fuel is not filter as much as your more expensive brands, hence the price difference, but you have fuel filters, I have used tesco fuel in my car for a year and I have no problems what do ever, I would doubt very much that it can be bad or that bad, as its for sale, if there were problems they just wouldn't be allowed to sell it, wouldn't they?

All fuel on sale in forecourts has to comply with UK and EU quality regs - fuel at Tesco etc is refined at the same refineries and sometimes even delivered in the same trucks (I've seen a BP truck delivering fuel at my local supermarket). It won't be as high quality as the likes of vPower or BP Ultimate but they contain additives which can provide increases in efficiency and performance. I'm not entirely sure if the additional price on what is already an extremely expensive product justifies the marginal gains though. Bog standard diesel and petrol is all the same stuff.

I fort the morrisons fuel was the bad stuff to use. I always use shell and collect points towards fuel vouchers :p

do supermarkets each have their own refineries? I think not. They must all get their fuel from the same sources, I think the difference is how it is blended for each supermarket / garage. Personally I get my diesel from whichever happens to be cheaper at the time! I often use Tesco's diesel and have noticed no ill effects and I reckon a slightly improved MPG ~48MPG in my FabiaI 1.9TDi and I often drive it quite hard. Not noticed much heavy black smoke but that's probably got more to do with the "Italian tune up" It gets from time to time!!

I too have used Tesco diesel for a number of years with no problems apparent. At the moment my average consumption is around 60mpg which is most satisfactory; up to 70mpg on a good long journey of appropriate roads (eg Bath to Hereford) with not too much motorway.

The best fuel is the cheapest, in my mind!!!

Supermarkets use exactly the same fuel as everyone else.

I find no differences in fuel whether It's bought at Supermarkets or the Branded service stations, all the same to me.

90% of the time i fill up at Asda, but on the odd occasion i fill up at a Shell station, i notice no difference to performance, smoke, and economy.

Supermarket fuel is the same but they don't put the same additive package in as the "main" brands do. The are always right on the min in the weights and measures department.
