Forge intercooler

Featured Replies

Hi everyone i got a call from forge today saying they have my intercooler ready at last and all being well it will be fitted next week.

So far they figure it to cost around £600 il let you know the figures afterwards as hopefully its gonna be dyno'd as well.

Just thought id update people

Thank you for the update, if I count it right it should be approx 6500 sek and the HG motorsport intercooler is 6600 sek (compared for my own sake).

Obviously, the Forge-intercooler will be cheaper for you since your shipping will be alot easier on your wallet...

Waiting for the figures (and the size off the thing, size matters ofcourse ;) ).

Hi the prototype i saw last time i was there is a fair bit taller but the core has been designed to keep lag to a minimum and keep the car responsive.

should be good for 10bhp maybe more on a standard car and a significant amount when mapped and stage 2 etc

paid like 450 for mine (no twincooler)

Lag shouldn't be a problem really, there has to be a really bad design to get more lag since the original-construction is abit restrictive from what I've heard.

That + that we got a supercharger for the lag xD!

I got quoted 699 euros, 1000 if I wanted a bigger one and I had to drop off the car for them (in Germany) :p!

If i remember rightly was yours a development one that you got at cut price.

Mine will also be reduced price its costing me £250 fitted and dyno'd as this is the 2nd time they have had my car for a week.

The price isnt set in stone yet though so i will let you know when ive had it all done.

I'm interested in the size. As Confide says, size matters....

Good news though

Subscribed.

I really need an intercooler, so fingers crossed it fits the Polo too. B)

Cheers for the updates mate

From the pictures, looks roughly 30-40% taller and the same width.

I'm wondering after all the development problems how long it would take to fit this. As I know everything else sits on top of the intercooler.

It is quite a long winded job few hours + to do everything properly. However its no more difficult than replacing with a standard one

Quite glad mine is being fitted for me to be honest

Another update my intercooler needs further modification unfortunately to the end tanks so will be another couple of weeks on the plus side i got a new wastgate actuator for free

upgraded wastgate actuator or was your old one broken ?

  • Author

Upgraded its a higher flow one they have been testing for our tsi engines no real difference but will be beneficial come mapping time

This is the problem i gues with dropping your car off, then leaving, coming back, leaving etc etc

Im just dropping my car off for a week and they are working on it full time, so hopefully i should be sorted first time. hopefully being the key word... :|

Thing is if they need it longer they can have it for longer, id just like to aim of for a week.

Yeah it is a pain but they are having new end tanks cast which isnt a quick proccess i suppose.

But it will be worth it in the end

iirc your paying £250, i personally think thats steep for a development car, which is why i turned down on the offer. Burton upon trent is circa 90 mile away from Forge HQ and correct me if im wrong, you will have done 3 return journeys there and back once you have it fitted. Taking into account the travelling costs, time and effort id want to be paying alot less than £250.

i guess with the waste gate actuator offsets it somewhat. Have they fitted it for you, and whats the us of it, i could foresee a use for one on a hybrid or big turbo converted car, but not really on a stock car.

You should try and persuade them to do a Big break kit for it. The mk5 Golf Forge BBK is so much cheaper than th alternatives on the market

Forge originally had my car im for this development but then it went very quiet, next thing I know your car is on their ramps with the prototype being mocked up on it. Will be nice to see this get completed as they had my car back in February time.

Nice to see they left you out of the loop. :(

When Forge did my Ibiza twintercooler that was done free of charge, along with a free header tank, oil and coolant caps and a free intake kit.

Guess is luck of the drawer and timing.

Well i think after everything now i wont be paying 250 it has been a right hassle and has become very expensive the mock up should have gave them all they need measurement wise.

So to not be right this time is a little bit unproffesional.

The wastegate is of no real use to me just a shiny part under the bonnet but il not complain about getting it for free

Mine is being done for free as well. Thats why i was surpirsed at the £250 + the cost of 3 return trips. Granted its still cheaper than if you were to pay full price, but still..

Then again, comparing to order it from... let's say HG motorsport it would be 699 euro.

3 return-trips equals how many miles? Have to start counting on the long run there.

My exhaust way payed by the company who built it in place (they even payed for a rentalcar AND gas for it!), so I think a certain company should have a little good gesture since it's taken abit off extra time.

Well I am still a bit miffed that i got dropped for apparently a "communications issue", they said they couldn't get hold of me and had to seek another car from off of here to finish development. All i know is I received no calls or emails, and they have managed to email me once I raised a question about how development was going.

After all the messing about, I think both me and duffman502 should get a free intercooler and fitting after taking our own time, money, and lending our pride and joy for development. It would be a good gesture and go a long way to restoring my faith in Forge.

  • 1 month later...

Whats the score with this then? Seems to have gone very quiet on the forge front
