Oil usage

Out of curiosity how much oil does your vrs use?

I've topped up a couple litres every 4 months or so.

Mine don't use any at all. What age and mileage is your car? Does it get driven hard?

Mine doesn't use any either. Since servicing in August the level is still exactly the same as it was when I changed the oil.

200ml between services. All cars use some oil, or something is wrong.

Mine uses a tiny amount. Maybe 500ml over 10,000 miles.

Mine was serviced 5k ago by previous owner and mine hasn't used any oil going by the dip stick.

Mine will use between 200-400ml between services!

Checked mine this morning for the first time in a while (I'm terrible at doing it by my own admission, usually gets checked every few thousand miles but I don't think I've done it since the last service so around 6.5k ago) and mine was just above the bottom of the hatched area this morning. I always thought that bottom to top of hatched was around 1 litre but I put 0.5 litres in to start with and expected it to be just coming towards the top of the hatches. It was actually very very slightly over. so I would say it had used maybe 350-400ml in 6.5k since its last service.

Covered about 17k now since January not used a drop in between service.

The smallest amount every service, would have guessed its the ccv doing its job....well mine smokes like a goodun at times

Just to add, people who think their car doesn't use any oil, may not realise that engine oil gets diluted by small amounts of fuel. An engine in top condition may not appear to use any oil, but that's simply the level staying the same due to fuel mixed in with the oil.

After checking this morning and finding it about 0.5-1mm above the hatched area, I just got a hunch and checked it again. Now the oil's settled properly, it's actually more like 3mm above the hatched area and almost up to the top curve of the dipstick. I guess when I was pouring cold oil into the filler first thing this morning it was thicker (i.e. not heated by the engine) and took longer to reach the sump. The car had been stood overnight, I checked cold then poured my 0.5 litres in and left it probably 15 minutes before checking again. Now it's been driven, stood for about 2 and a half hours and is reading pretty high.

It's going into the garage on Thursday for a clutch replacement anyway so I'll ask him to siphon some out but is this anything to seriously worry about? I've read about people who've always found their cars overfilled by a few millimetres each service even from Skoda so I'm thinking that it's not the end of the world and as long as it's not massively overfilled it'll be OK...I'm not doing any serious journeys tomorrow, it'll just be a steady drive to and from work which should be OK?

Forgot to say i drop my oil every 3k.

However if this was the case vw got the fuel to oil mixture bang on. ;)

Very very little. Not bad for a 158,000 miler IMO

depends which hill i'm parked on??

Just a real silly question?

Is it not 6000 miles between oil changes?

Sweet FA. Did 100mph run for 2 hours and used a bit then but none otherwise.
